Fixing the m4

don’t touch it and send it to stoeger Canada right away. They will replace the barrel most likely.

Did you really just solder it like a copper plumbing pipe???

Please, PLEASE! have someone video you test firing your "fix"

Bad silver soldering job from the factory.
Should have called Stoeger Canada as that solder job you did is way too soft.

Whats a stronger soldering? Does strong and soft depend on solder used?

Most likely Benelli oven bakes the barrels to melt the SILVER solder, other aspect is its a lot to do with prep than just applying heat. The reason to bake is so that the entire barrels heats and cools together to control expansion and contraction or welding would be better but warping can be a huge problem.

They're silver soldered / brazed on. A defect from the factory, but with what you've done I'm sure the warranty is absolutely gone now...

It absolutely won't hold up with that you've done. A new barrel is probably 900-1200 dollars...

Maybe... just maybe Tactical Ordnance can fix it, but I'm not sure. He does a lot of shotgun work and does work on M4's but that's a lot of specialty work to do...

Simple task to remove the electrical solder and then silver solder it up again.
The real issue is that the barrel will have to be refinished.
So right about now the cost of fixing will be about half of what a new barrel will cost.
Free would have been Stoeger replacing the barrel.
All in all, it's a learning experience and we all make mistakes and at least you did try.
Call Casey at Tactical Ordnance, amazing guy!

For the question regarding the different types of soldering/brazing, pros/cons and applications, google is most definitely your friend.
Strongest of what is listed in this thread is silver soldering, next is brass brazing and last is electrical solder.
If I recall correctly, that type of electrical solder does contain a minuscule amount of silver for strength and is used when vibration is an issue. I use it in my retomod build since I just don't trust crimps.

Electrical solder finally let go. I hate solder, and I think I'll haul this thing to the local welder for the next repair.

What's the % chance of warping my barrel by welding? I know that this guy is a fellow gun nut and very careful and thorough, so I'm mostly confident it'll still shoot straight.

Is brazing my best option?

I will work about the finish when this thing stops falling apart on me, lol. Function over cosmetics.

You have a 100% chance to warp the barrel if welding it. You could also burn right through, Benelli barrels are famously thin and light. You're also going to have to heat treat it to relieve the stress, and that could cause the gas block and front sight (and mag tube hanger) to fall off if it gets too hot. Not to mention the barrel extension could be loosened.

Contact a proper gunsmith, I already recommended Casey at Tactical Ordnance, if he isn't able to fix it, he may be able to recommend someone that can.

There's a reason Benelli chose to braze the joints instead of welding them, Beretta/Benelli have been around for 400+ years as a company, still privately owned. They really know exactly what they are doing when it comes to shotguns. every once in a while something goes wrong; but that bridge has been crossed and burned.

You could TRY contacting Stoeger Canada (Benelli/Beretta importer) and see if they are willing to repair it, but it's probably not going to be free.
