glow in the dark paint works, but you need to apply multiple layers over a white background for the best result. It will never match tritium, and needs a good dose of daylight or a UV rich flashlight to 'activate' the glow in the dark properties.

best way to repaint is to clean with acetone and then apply multiple thin coats of nail polish or other enamel with a tiny tiny brush or a toothpick. after 4-5 coats, clean any spill or overpaint with acetone.

you could consider colours too -- i like red front sight dot and green rear sight dots.

You might also find that the recesses that are drilled in the sights are deeper than they need to be, making the paint way in the bottom appear darker than it needs to be. You can fill up the recess somewhat so that the surface that you paint is just slightly recessed, making it seem brighter when finished. I did this using a drill bit to remove the existing paint, degrease with whatever you prefer, then press some quicksteel in the hole. Just the right amount of fingertip pressure on the still-soft quicksteel will leave a small indent that will protect the paint from wear.

I did this to my front sight, and filled in the rears completely to obtain my preferred sight picture.

I bought a little bottle of gloss white enamel and a bottle of fluorescent red at the model shop.

Clean the front sight post and paint either the complete blade or just the white dot with white paint. I use a toothpick. The white is required if you want the red to be bright. When dry, paint on the red paint. The result is a brilliant red post or dot.
