Found this image in BP any one know what it is ?

Interesting! I'm going to have to guess at some sort of Commonwealth division, with the Canadian, South African?, and Australian motifs.

Of course, the white background also makes me think Navy?

I sure hope someone out there knows.

Neat find!

Oooops...sorry...you have to be a member of the Flags of the World...Yahoo mailing list. They have this flag on their Specially Sewn - British Flags and Ensigns photo page.

Their picture...

The info off the forum...

I would call this a patriotic decoration rather than a flag, in the sense that it was probably meant to be draped indoors, and not flown on a flag pole.

It has the Star of India in the centre, four white stars on the St George's cross probably represent New Zealand, the arms of Australia, Canada, and Union of South Africa in the quarters. The South African arms were granted in 1910. The maple leaves on the Canadian shield were blazoned in 1921 and changed from green to red in 1957.

It might have been produced for celebrations in connection with the Silver Jubilee of George V in 1935, or the Coronation of George VI in 1937.

The Australian Coat-of-Arms was the official one between 1908 and 1910. As for the Southern Cross, I believe it stands for New Zealand.

Oh, so thats what it is. My only question is abut the bird on the Australian coat of arms...in your photo its an emu? on my old flag its something else. Any ideas?

...and slight differences to the Star of India - white center versus gold, green circle versus blue, ect.

Gentlemen

The flag is question is an 'ensign' by definition; not a 'flag' per se, as it represents more than one nation.

The bird on the Aussie Coat of Arms is an emu. The four stars appear on the flag and ensigns of New Zealand, red or white depending upon 'flag' or 'ensign'. I'm not sure of their significance. Part of the Southern Cross as seen from New Zealand?

The Arms Coat of South Africa translates to "Strength from Unity", a tribute to both Dutch and English traditions. I believe the rampant critters to be a gemsbok and a springbok, antelope species native to South Africa.
