Flash hider questions

Hi everybody. I want to put some kind of flash hider or muzzle brake on my CZ-858, but haven’t decided on which one. I still have a few questions that I need answered, if anyone would be so kind to help. So here they go:

Has anybody, other than Curton and Kasat, installed a modified L1A1 flash hider on a CZ-858? If yes, did you modify it yourself, or did you buy it somewhere? Where? How much?

For those who’ve fired the CZ-858 with both the modified flash hider and the Wolverine/Marstar “Large Muzzle Brake”; how would you describe the difference in felt recoil and muzzle flash? (I know some have reported being smacked somewhat in cheek, when firing the rifle with the large muzzle brake)

I have a couple of L1A1 flash hiders I bought for this purpose, but just haven’t been able to find the 14/1 tap to modify them myself. So if I could buy one already modified, at the right price, I’d go that route. That is, unless the MB would be the better choice.

I know this rifle doesn’t have much recoil, but having even less would definitely help in getting faster double tap hits on the target. Thanks.

Dlask manufactures this flash hider and some other products for the VZ-58 rifles. Check out their website.

an l1a1 flash hider will thread right on, the threads are 9/16x24 and will thread on almost a full inch before the threads interfere.

well, i thought i would try what you said since i have a few L1A1 FH lying around , i hacked off the excess part of the FH and i found it only threaded no more than 1/4" , IMHO i dont think thats enuff .

Obviously not, check that the threads do not have a knick on them, clean em', and if it still won't, it means you threads do not match.

You can buy the taps from Enco, and is Model #327-2559.
They cost $10.72 usd and are spiral point type for cutting steel threads.
You could use the tap to fit the L1A1 threads to your Vz as well.

He, he, I wish I had read Curton's answer before I went I tried it myself, too! Mine goes in about 5/16", but is still about 1/16" from touching the locking pin in front of the front sight base. I was able to screw it one more turn without damaging the threads, by working it back and forth and using a generous amount of never seize. But it just doesn't seem to want to go any further.

I was finally able to find a tap locally, but it is a high quality/high speed one made in Sweden, and at $40.00 + 12.875% tax it is a bit more than I'd like to spend on it (although the store guy said he'd take $5 off, which would certainly make it more attractive). I wonder how much the Enco tap will come up to, once delivered.

Anyways, I think the rifle looks really cool with this FH on, so I might end up getting the tap in the end. I do have another card up my sleeve, though. My wife has an uncle with a big metal working shop, and I might be visiting close by this weekend, so I’ll see if he has a tap I could use. He already got me out of trouble once, when I got a vent liner stuck in the breech plug of my Savage 10ML, so we’ll see. ;)

Thanks everybody.
