Flashhider problem - either too tight or too loose!

Hey guys,

I have a bit of a problem with the flashhider on my M305.

The little set screw only fits in those stupid little slots, and the tightest I can turn the nut makes the slot misaligned. I have to back it off a bit to make the slot alight with the set screw. This makes the FH wobbly, and I'm worried about bullet strikes (quite a bit of play!)

I tried like CRAZY to tighten it to the NEXT slot, to no avail. Hammer and screwdriver can't even get it there!

So, my questions is twofold:

1. Should I worry about the wobbles, and just deal with it? Any harm to be done?

2. Can I just loctite the castle nut and tighten the piss out of it, even if the set screw won't engage? I like the idea of being able to remove it for cleaning so loctite might not be the best way, I know.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you try this:

With the FS as tight as you can, take the rifle turn it upside down and drop it gently on its FS (muzzel end) on a padded hard floor.

You will notice that the FS will be driven deeper, tighten the castle nut as best as you can and repeat this process until you can't tighten the nut anymore.

You will be surprised how tight this meathod will get it and no harm will be done to the rifle.

Hmmm... not really excited about dropping my Leupold scoped M305 on the floor, but I guess it's less than recoil! :)

I'll try a rubber hammer first... thanks for the tips! If that don't work, looks like its peening.

Rubber mallet is ok but you want to drive the rifle into the FS and not the FS into the rifle. My suggestion is without a scope:eek:
