I am thinking about adding a flashlight to the front end of my Grizzly. The barrel is pretty long, so I thought I could add the light directly under the barrel, ahead of the mag tube. What do you guys think? Do I just get a clamp of some sort and hang a decent flashlight? Here's what I have to work with:

You could clamp a light under the barrel, and it would look like part of the mag tube.
The problems with that would be a) reaching the flashlight, unless you have long arms and can comfortably reach beyond the end of the forend. b) Access in control (tailcap) if the flashlight is inline with the tube.
You could mount the flashlight to the side (9 o'clock position) you would be able to press the tailcap with your thumb (beware recoil if you do this).
You could keep the flashlight under the barrel (6 o'clock position) and use a flashlight with a coiled pressure switch running back to the forend. The problem is that the cord could get caught in the forend and prevent the action from fully closing.
You'll have to figure out which compromises your willing to make and go from there.

I was thinking of taking advantage of the extra space under the barrel, and coupling that with a pressure switch. Being new to all this, it's hard to determine which lights or clamps to use. The clamps that look like cheap bent metal with wing nuts don't impress me, while some of the more robust clamps (are they called mounts?) could easily reach $100.
As for lights, I am thinking that Surefire is great, but well beyond my budget. Sadly, it seems that a person could write a book on tactical flashlights, due to all the information out there. There's the xenon versus LED, the name brands, the knock-offs, lumens, watts, etc. Of course all the manufacturers claim there's are the best (even though they are listed at $13 via Hong Kong shipment). Ebay is a frickin nightmare when trying to see what's avialable.

I wonder what a decent, but budget minded clamp/mount and light combo would be. Does such a thing even exist?

P.S. I have seen the duct tape images before. :)

You could purchase a flashlight that has a pressure switch which could then be attached to the fore-end. I wouldn't opt for that position as my gun is used in the cold and I would be concerned with working the wire at low temperatures.

I've been looking for a quality flashlight and mounting system for my 590, without going to the cost of a SureFire fore-end. I came across something on Tac-Star's website that I thought I'd try, although it hasn't arrived yet. Its a $31 attachment that allows you to use one of the shell positions on a Sidesaddle to hold the stem that holds the flashlight in a scope ring on the top of the stem. The pressure switch from the flashlight can then be placed on the pistol grip of the shotgun where the cable won't be worked. If you don't have a flashlight with a pressure switch the rear positioning of the flashlight would make the light switch more accessible than it would be ahead of the magazine. The remaining 5 shells in the Sidesaddle simply stop against the body of the flashlight above the Sidesaddle. When everything comes in I'll post a pic and let you know if the system appears to be worth while or if it's back to the drawing board.

There was a thread on here about a cheap replacement forend to fit 870 and clones. +light. I got one for around $35 and the upgrade bulb was around $10, but that light upgrade was sooo worthwhile. Looks like an old style surefire forend with pressure switch. I like it. It works.

I mounted my weapon light to the magazine tube on my mossberg 590A1, but you might be able to mount it to the barrel. The only thing that might be bad about that is the heat from the barrel radiating through the bracket to the flashlight. Hope it helps....gives you a idea how it might look. :D

cheers.
