Is there a one piece Weaver type base out there that has a flat bottom. I could use two #61's but would prefer a one piece.

Thanks

What arm are you trying to fit? There are dozens of bases, but hole spacing is critical. If you're mounting an oddball, you can get a gunsmith base and drill it to fit.

Yup, both the Weaver 63A (6.125" long) and the 63B (5.450" long) are flat bottomed one piece bases designed for the Marlin 336 or you could use the # 58 one piece base which is 4.624" long and .283" thick with a hole spacing of 3.275". If you go with two piece bases, here's some specs for you: #28 is .239" thick with a hole spacing of .504", #29 is.292" thick with a hole spacing of .504, #39 is .165" thick with a hole spacing of .504"...all the above listed one piece bases are .812" long and are flat bottomed as well.

Hope this info helps you a little...

Gunsmith Kinks III....I have books I, II, and III of the series....there is a wealth of knowledge in there for both the amateur and the professional...I'm sure I've read them each a dozen times over the years....

Excellent guys, thanks. I'm making a mount for an enfield, it already has 4 #8-40 holes drilled and tapped in the side of the action. The drill bit used was oversized and must have been freehand taped by the angles they are on, looks like a carpenter nailing in tounge and groove. :D

ctc from first hole :
0.718 to second hole
2.380 to third hole
3.085 to last hole, which is up to keep away from ejector screw.

All measurements are in ish ;)

I didn't want to take the chance and buy a mount for 80? bucks for two obvious reasons, price and risk. Maybe I should have asked about the hole spacing first and mount availability, the holes could have been drilled with a jig then hand tapped. These ctc'c sound familiar, is the mount available?

The #58 sounds to be a good size, how many holes are in it to attach to the action, or in my case, the mount?

If you don't mind a few extra holes, try a TO-1 base for the Enfield. It's top mount, using 6-48 holes on the receiver ring and bridge.
If the mount is going to be put on the side of the rifle, how far to the left is the scope going to be sitting? Trying to visualize the setup...

The #58 has two holes in it I believe...you could always custom drill other holes wherever you need to in the mount. This would be better than creating even more of a "Swiss Cheese" look to the gun...remember, all the mounts I listed are top mounts though, not side mounts, unless of course you are building an angle iron mount to utilise or cover up the side mount holes you say are already there...

BTW, the holes you say are already I the side sound like they were there for a Parker Hale Side Mount at one time by the looks of that hole spacing....

;) I'll try the #58

No mounts around to try, could ask here for a mount but I figured what the hay, thinkering with this might be fun.

I'll have to post a pic ... if or when, ya know what I mean
