I am going to start reloading for the 7.62x54 caliber very soon,
and a few weeks later start reloading for 308 win

i noticed that higginson powders has a very nice deal for 308 and 303 bullets
but these are flat point bullets

Am i going to have feeding issues with the rifles below because of the flat point?
1-Mosin Nagant M91/30
2-Norinco M14b

Thanks

i would say that you will not have problems
i have used fp in the norinco no problems (maybe 1 jam in 300 rounds)and other fp in other rifles

jam is when case goes forward and takes a nose dive

you will have issues when you shoot at longer ranges and the bullet bc causes lower point of impact or wind drift you will not notice at 100 yds

flat point could possible be better for hunting depending on conditions

308 normal max length with bullet seated is 2.800 +-

the flatpoint bullet I use has a length of 2.605 +-seated
(bullet length is .850 ---short and stubby)
pointed bullets because of being pointed will be longer than that

the difference is app .2 that distance allows the case to go forward and do a nose dive in (the flat nose hits the mag and stops the case from chambering)
pointed bullets will almost never do it

it will happen some times if i top load a single round (no stripper clip)
I do not get round back far enough

for me it will happen very seldom, I think when there is a burr on a rim/case and it pushes the case under it forward when chambering the top round

so round 1 chambers ok but pushes round 2 forward in to front of mag so when bolt goes back and picks up round 2, flat nose of round 2 is up against front of mag and stops

does not happen very often for me but I can usually fix it without even taking it off my shoulder
for norinco left hand reaches over or under and pules back bolt, right hand thumb reaches in and slides case back (rim touches back of mag), right hand regrip stock, left hand releases bolt, re grip stock -- bolt goes forward / chambers round
Done

it can also be done with a bolt gun except all done with right hand
