I usually layer. Fleece then softshell to cut the wind. If I'm going to sit, I bring my sherpa fleece and I put it on once I'm sitting.
Layering is key
My setup is usually the following for stand hunting
In order
1 Base layer merino wool longsleeve top and bottoms
2 Cabelas thermal base layer top
3 regular crew socks overtop pant legs
4 Canadian forces fleece top and bottoms
5 Alpaca socks or thermal socks from marks (probably get them al walmart too, they are thick and fuzzy) goes over the fleece pant legs
6 (if needed on really cold -10, -20 sits) primaloft vest
7 final outer layer, yukon gear parka and bibs, if really cold then cabelas whitetail stand hunter extreme coveralls
8 muck boots with legs tucked in, or white mickey mouse arctic boots
9 blaze toque and vest, if really cold, balaclava or face mask
10 thin gloves to go in the flip style gloves that accept hand warmers
Nothing all that expensive. Hand warmers are great, use a pack in the morning in your gloves and even a second pack in pockets to help keep you warm.
