Purchased a Browning Buck Mark 22 and I have broken a couple of allen keys attempting to remove the barrel. So plan B. Is there a flexible cleaning rod that one can purchase to clean the bore from the breech? Don't want to screw up the crown. Thanks for the help.

I had some trouble with that barrel screw too.
Couldn't find a regular allen wrench that fit just right except for one in a precision gunsmithing set of drivers.
I noticed that Wholesale sports has their Otis cleaning stuff on sale, and they have a pistol kit with a short boresnake that I'm going to check out.

I had one a while ago & never bothered to remove the barrel. I cleaned with bore snake & used tooth brush to clean in and around. The slide was the only thing I removed.

Thanks for the suggestions. Checked Brownells and they had swabs on bambo sticks. The bambo would bend around corners without breaking. This might work. There are flexible rods with chamber swabs for larger calibres so you would think there should be a flexible rod for a 22. I‘ll keep looking.

Or simply use a crown protector on your cleaning rod like the rest of us?

The problem with anything that bends around to fit is that you're going to get a lot more pressure on the one side of the bore. So stuff on the other side can be left. Better to clean from the muzzle and just use a crown protector.

Yes I do use crown protectors on 10-22‘s and a couple of other rifles but haven‘t found anything specific for the Buckmark. Maybe you can piont me in the right direction. Thanks.

I buy cheap plastic knitting needles from Dollarama (or any dollar store) and clean the barrel from the crown end. There is no way that the soft plastic knitting needle will damage a heat treated barrel crown. The end is tapered also and acts as a guide. Works like a hot damn. I've had the same ones for years. None have broken or damaged by the chemicals that I use.

Otis makes one, Winchester another ( havent used my Winchester kit yet ) Just a cable style rod with a jag and female threaded end for brushes. I know Otis ( 17$ at CT ) has shorter 22 cal brass brushes.

Nice tip will give it a try ..

I don't remove the barrel, the locking lug is fairly soft aluminium and can get loose over time when retightening

I second the Otis recommendation.
If you have trouble finding a retailer, I know amazon.ca has some.

Another useful item is to modify string trimmer line (as for grass cutting).
Melt one end and form to a bulb of sufficient size.
Poke the other through a patch.
There are commercial variants of this, but quite a bit cheaper to make.

I'd also recommend taking a look over at rimfirecentral forums.
There are some excellent Buckmark disassembly and cleaning discussions there.
