Hmm... not sure what you're shooting. My flint rifles and I are all right handed, but every other shot with my flint double is on the near side, and I have noticed no significant difference in perceived hazard between the two sides. Yes, I've occasionally had things spit at my face, but nothing major, and I always wear shooting glasses. The touch-hole jet bouncing off a too-close wall/tree/etc. has occasionally been... interesting. I find my arms are more at risk from flash or occasional fragments from those new-fangled copper thingies.
