i am looking to buy a flintlock pistol and was wondering if a licence is required to buy one? Does anyone know any Canadian suppliers?

If its pre 1898, no licence is required. If it was made after that, it is subject to all the rules applying to any modern pistol.

They are selling it as a non-shooting replica. Replicas of antiques are not prohibited devices; replicas of modern firearms are prohib. Drill a touch hole, and you have manufactured an unregistered restricted firearm. Register it, drill the vent, and you have a legal, registered pistol - for which you will need an ATT if you want to take it to a range and shoot it. Don't expect that the rules and regulations are intended to make sense.

Oddly, I do expect things to make sense. That's like saying I can make a full-auto machine gun and forget to install a firing pin and it's still legal.

I still contend that flintlock pistols are exempt just like flintlock rifles/muskets. Does anyone have a link to that particular statute? I'll have a look myself in the meantime.

OK...I found it and you're right.

Muzzleloaders Made After 1898

All matchlock, flintlock and wheel lock long guns are classified as antiques no matter when they were made. Like older firearms of these types, they are exempt from the licence and registration requirements set out in the Firearms Act.

Percussion cap long guns and muzzle-loading black powder handguns made after 1898 are not classified as antiques even if they are copies of an earlier antique model. Newer percussion cap long guns are classified as non-restricted firearms; newer handguns, including matchlock, wheel lock and flintlock handguns made after 1898, are classified as restricted if their barrel length is over 105 mm (about 4 inches), or prohibited if their barrel length is 105 mm or less.

It is important to note that there are a lot of reproduction firearms on the market. In addition, some firearms were made over a period of several years spanning the 1898 cut-off date. If you possess or wish to acquire a percussion cap firearm or a muzzle-loading handgun, you need to know if it was made before or after 1898 in order to know what rules apply to you.
