Flintlock Pistol, powder charge?

I have a Traditions Trapper .50 cal flintlock pistol. I'm planning to take it out to the range tommorow. How many grains of powder should I start with?

Generally speaking, for BP pistols the recommended charge is 1/2 the caliber;
ie: for a .50 cal pistol, start with 25 grains of powder.
