Butler Creek is the standard, but Weaver and others also make flip-up caps. Which is best - opinions appreciated.

Peter

Thanks Holleyman, have read reviews and Leupold flip-ups do seem tops, but require having a threaded Leupold scope, whereas I require them for Nightforce scopes.

Peter

Peter, about the only thing I hate about Nightforce scopes is that the eyepiece rotates when you zoom, so the flip cap rotates with it. It ALWAYS ends up in a bad place, jammed against the stock, blocking the bolt handle, in front of your other eye ...

I just take off the rear cap when I'm using the rifle - I'd be interested to hear if there are other solutions for this.

For the lefties out there...foud out the Butler Creek flip up caps on the occular end, the lever to flip up the cap tends to get in the way of the bolt handle on larger caliber bolt action rifles. I had to angle mine a touch so the handle will clear. Small detail.

Yeh, same thing with the Leupold flip ups, depends on the rifle though. I don't use the ocular ones at all now. The only way it would work on my M70s blocks my weak eye when shooting. Rifles with a lower angle bolt throw will work though.

I have used Leopold and butler creek scope caps. I like the Leupold caps, the way they magnetically close so that when you open them they flip up instantly and without a sound is quite slick! The butler creek ones work fine too, and they cost a lot less.

I'm a lefty too. I got around the problem by buying an objective lens cap that fit the ocular lens. Nothing gets in the way of the bolt, and I didn't like the little red lever anyways.

I'm new to flip up caps, but like the idea of expediency for sighting when I'm hunting. I'm getting tired of having to take off and put on again the "rubber band" covers when I'm going through the woods. It just ends up making noise that the animal can find me by. My primary scope right now is a Burris Full Field II 3x9x40. Can you get flip ups that will fit onto this scope?
