Fluted?

I know i know another fluted discusion...

In reality is a fluted barrel really worth the extra coinage?

Can a guy take a non fluted tube (ie. S&J 11.5) and send it in for fluting?


I really like this style of fluting but can it be done on a premade barrel such as the s&j barrels?

I asked around when I still had an XCR and I couldnt find any shop in Canada that would do it.

The problem with any fluting of a barrel, especially after it's already been made, is the material stresses that the fluting, or any removal of material, may release. It's different when the manufacturer does it as they adjust and straighten the barrel after.

It can be done but it may affect the barrel in a detrimental manner. This is why most shops probably won't touch it.

So better off to just source out a fluted barrel

I saw a documentary on the US marine completion team where they flute and chamber their own guns. It would depend on how the barrel was manufactured.
