Got my PAL a few years ago, and being in school etc, didnt think it was worth the expense to go get firearm and join a club.

Now that I am doing well, I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and purchase a firearm. I got a 92 Beretta FS.

Should have done a bit more research, as my initial plan was to go shooting ranges as a guest member for 20/visit. However, issue is with the ATT.

What are my options? Is it not possible to get an ATT to visit a gun club as a guest? I only have a motorbike so my ability to travel is also limited. FML and am located in downtown toronto.

Well according to the law we are allowed to get an ATT without being a member of a gun club. According to Chris Wyatt you need to be a member. However he has successfully been taken to court over it, by Cyclone, and the judge ruled that Wyatt must issue an ATT without requiring membership. Though, he's Chris Wyatt and he does what he wants, he doesn't have to listen to a judge, or parliament, or the public safety minister, or the prime minister, or the RCMP commissioner or any of the other people who have at various times told him to change his ways. Like a boss.

Do I just fill out the form and check

m) Transport to and from an approved shooting club or shooting range for
target practice (for restricted firearms and prohibited handguns only).
Provide shooting club / range information.

How long is the process?

Im actually just thinking about returning the gun.

Good luck! In Ontario, it's unlikely they will issue you an LATT without a club membership unless Mr. Wyatt had a change of heart but you will have better luck getting blood from stone!

If you join a club, anywhere from 3wks to a couple months depending on the club.

Yea pretty much. It's just too bad that how it SHOULD work as a public official, he should be MORE under the law than the rest of us, with all that he does under the scrutiny of the public eye.

No kidding, eh? He basically works for us but his rules.

Like a stupid f*cking boss who doesn't follow his own f*cking rules! This thread got me pissed and i don't even own restricteds!

I didn't realize you could acquire a handgun in Ontario without being a member of a range, and having an ATT to take possession.

Couple of the CGN lads challenged Chris in court. Court ruled in their favor but Wyatt has been giving them the run around ie he wants to see the invites and names of the clubs and gunsmiths they need to visit etc. Sounds like he's d!cking them around with his interpretation of the court ruling. There's a thread about this in the legal section. With clubs starting one day memberships, I don't see why we can't get LTATT for the occasional shooter.

It is sorta annoying. The main loophole is the fact that most gun clubs don't want you on the premises if you aren't a member. I am sure there are some clubs that will do like you say, 20$ a day, but the stipulation is that you need to have a member in good standing invite you and take responsibility for your actions, and some clubs even state that you may not "invite" a non-member who doesn't have a valid licence/CSSA unless you have passed their own internal "range officer training".

Aside from this, I have seen some fancy footwork done by active members who can call the CFO and request a temporary ATT to "borrow" the non-member's gun, and then drive the non-member and his gun to the range and "supervise" the non-member for a fun day of shooting. This of course completely depends on the club, and the CFO will get cranky if you abuse it.

To the best of my knowledge, the CFO will not issue an ATT for the purpose of shooting, temporary or otherwise, unless you have an authorized club vouch for you with paperwork, a phonecall from the club president will not work.

On the other hand, Both clubs that I belong to require a MINIMUM of 4 registered trips to the gun range per year, and at least 1 session witnessed/supervised by an appointed member to observe your safety protocols and shooting. Anything less than this they assume you are untrained enough to be dangerous and will revoke your membership.

I have seen the effects of falling out of practice. Usually in target stands that are all shot to pieces, or shooting benches with bullet holes in them. Many gun ranges know well that it is usually just not worth the 20-60$ to allow infrequent shooters to blast away a few times a year.
