I recently pirchased a very nice FN 49 Venezualen Rifle in 7x57. I discovered that the one piece fring pin was broken. Can anyone tell me if I can replace it with the two piece firing pin? Also are there any parts dealers in Canada who would have firing pins or do I have to go get it from the USA? Are there any inexpensive sources for 7x57 ammo in Canada. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

You should go with the one piece firing pin. Getting them from america is almost your only option. I had to have some made here for 8mm FN49's.

You should go with the one piece firing pin.

Thats a negative - replace with the 2 piece - it's a straight swap. Numrich in New York is your best bet - 7mm Mauser ammo is a fairly common caliber - commercial stuff is your only option, as surplus dried up 15 years back.

Always better to go with a two piece in these rifles; it has in common with several other self loaders of that era an unfortunate tendency to sometimes slam fire. Going to a 2 piece pin and the related changes reduces the incidence to practically zero.

True enough - both the one and 2 piece firing pins have springs, but it seems the one piece either breaks (usually not too bad) or the nose bends and jams forward (usually quite entertaining if the rifle stays togather - but usully bad)
As soon as I pick up an SAFN, I check the firing pin - I have seen enough broken or jammed....

I agree with DaveGP, get a two piece if you can. Inch pattern FN FAL (L1A1, C1A1) rifles got a two piece firing pin for exactly the reasons he stated. The one piece pins tend to jam in such a way as to protrude and cause slam fires when they break.
