Fn-49

One major problem is the SAFN has firing pin issues...the one-piece design was prone to break, or bend and jam forward. I have seen 3 this way, and my Venny issue was also bent and jammed forward. Just a caution on shooting this old warhorse!

Dave hit the nail on the head. This appears to be a known issue: read this post: htt_p://forums.gunboards.com/archive/index.php?t-3044.html

I've heard of this problem with the 1-piece pins and have tried to find a source for a 2-piece pin...to no avail, but so far have had no problem after several years of use.
My 8x57 Egyptian has only seen handloads as long as I've had it .I use the CCI # 34 primer and have had no functioning problems at all.

Kevan,

You can get the 2 piece firing pins at Numrich Gun Parts (they had both front and back in stock last time I checked), that is where I got a set.
http://www.e-gunparts.com/

They ship to Canada no problem as long as it is under the $100 limit and you don't order any major parts like barrels, bolts, recievers, etc. (they have a list on their website).

Also, do you have any loads that you would be willing to share for your FN-49?

One piece firing pin

One other problem I have seen is the 1 piece actually breaking. Two different Egyptian rifles in 7.92, admittedly using random surplus military ammo, had the same problem. Since the switch over to the two piece no problems, in about 15 years or so.

M14 blow ups

Guys have been reporting this same phenomenon with their M14's. Apparently the cause is either soft primers or a stuck firing pin as well.

No. One guy posted about his blowing up. Except, it wasn't his rifle. He didn't have any pictures. He couldn't answer all the questions. Someone called BS. He 'fessed up, and the collective wisdom 'spoke' to him.

Don't jump to conclusions on the cause of the M14 blowup. There was no conclusive statement possilbe without full story, just plenty of speculation. Although there was a lot of good background discussion about what MIGHT have been the cause.

I stand corrected. I'll have to read the rest of that post.
