FN-98 3 pos safety question

I would have a conversation with the builder. There is a chance that you can’t make a switch to another safety at this point in the game.

I have talked to the builder and would rather not go into the result of that conversation at this time as the discussion is ongoing.

I am of the mind the the angle of the safety lever should be changed so as to be more inline with the cocking pc. The would be either bend the lever or cut & re-weld it and make the change through that.

If the safety is full engaged at that angle of safety arm, bending/welding would be the quick way to make it more "snag resistant." I would hope that would done cleanly with regard to esthetics. If it were cut off and welded to the rear spur and parallel to the cocking piece that would go a long way toward making the safety "safe."

That doesn’t sound right - i ordered mine direct from NECG in 2019, just checked and their site still allows you to choose canada for shipping and doesn’t mention any restrictions. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure you can just order one.

You responded to my post with this quote. I just went on that website, their safeties are like low to high $300 usd. Rifle I'm wanting to upgrade is basically a beater for salal tunnels. That safety would be $500 can pesos, basically doubling the investment in that rifle, without any real increase in its resale. I get doing that with a build, just need a cheaper option for my purpose.

It always amazes me when I hear of "M70 style" safties for a M98. It's like "assault rifle style".

But if it floats your boat, with the results of the OPs pictured "fine" custom build you have a boat anchor...

Timney trigger with a side safety? Timney low swing safety? Only two positions, but I like them on classic builds.

I have a stainless zastava adjustable side safety trigger. Maybe we can work something out in the new year

I was responding to the part where western metal said they were unimportable - not meaning to cross any wires here.

If you're looking for a cheaper solution, I've mounted the timney flag replacement before and they work acceptably well but remove the middle position making bolt disassembly more of a pain.
