Haven't shot it yet, haven't looked at in a long time, but I do have a question!

IIRC this rifle is chambered for the 22 Long, however a very knowledgeable (who shall remain nameless) gunsmith told me that there are no problems with shooting 22 LR out of it.

Anyone care to comment, please?

i trust this 'smith, however no one is prefect and maybe I misunderstood what he said.

Seeing as most Browning Trombones were made for .22LR, I see no harm in trying it to see if it feeds and shoots OK. It might have too slow a rifling twist to shoot .22LR accurately, though.

.22LR in Browning

If you check the length of the case, you should find that the Long and Long Rifle cases are the same. The Long uses a lighter (.22 Short) bullet and the Long Rifle uses a heavier one.

Take it to the range, and try a few different types of ammunition. You might have to use a bullet that is a bit shorter ( Hollow Point ) or one with a cone type ojive on the bullet so that it will feed all right.

Match chambers are usually a bit tight in the throat so that the bullet touches the rifling. The Browning action in good shape is strong enough to handle a Long Rifle. At the range, try chambering ONE round, but not firing it. Cycle it through the action and eject it to see if the bullet has any marks on it from the rifling. If light marks, or none at all on the bullet, then you are all right.

Buffdog hit it right on the head! I have not had any problems myself, and my dad has had one since he was a teenager and he shot every type of ammo in it with no ill effect, take care, Dale
