FN next gen LMG, and their answer to SIG NSGW, or their next product to keep the Mk46 MK48 customers within FN. Potential replacement for Minimi in some NATO - maybe
Similar to SIG NSGW in technology, a large aluminum extrusion tube with bolted on hardened steel rails for the bolt group to guide on. Everything else is bolted on and not wielded like the old MAG and Minimi. Guess what, when this thing needs to be rebuilt it will be just unscrewing all the rails + extra, and putting in new ones.
The difference is a side opening feed tray cover - gone is the traditional cam pin track for the bolt carrier to drive the delinkers. Instead the lower feed tray has two delinking hooks to work with the other pair on the top side under the cover. This thing is truly " one hand" reload capable. Open the side cover, hook the link on the tray and close door, can be done with the none firing hand only.
True selective fire - SA and FA, AR ergonomic. Ridiculously light - the picture is the 7.62 version and it is abit over 10lb. Almost the same weight as the 5.56 version.
The barrel is fastened by 4 bolts - not QD but smart people can change it on their own if they are allowed.
Interesting most Americans don't even know what this is, they head straight to play with the antique mini and 40mm LOL
Edit: According to the Soldier's system this is the Assault Machine Gun component of the IWS that uses a new FN lightweight Intermediate Caliber Cartridge 6.5X43mm steel case ammo. It is said that Canadian SOF is participating in the project.
