so, always wanted an fnc1 since getting to shoot one in cadets back in the day. of course, not going to happen any more and, in fact, not a lot out there for semi-auto 308 whatsoever. the famae is about as close as you are going to get.

but, take a look at this listing (which i really want to buy, but can't justify until justin takes my socom away ...):

it's an fnar with an ar pistol grip adaptor and an mlok handguard adapator from infitech.se. WHAT IF you modified the pistol grip adaptor to take a fal stock, and the handguard adaptor to take a fal handguard? it wouldn't be quite the same (gas system is reverso, for example) but you could thread the barrel and put a pencil flash hider on it, and perhaps a barrel-mounted pic rail to simulate the gas block and mount a front sight.

and it would be an fnarfal. random sunday thoughts.
 
Soon to chime in: all the “your FN FAL isn’t worth anything any more” dudes. FN FALs are a neat rifle. We used to shoot them and the regular semi autos and had a ball. Now, however, the new woke govt has decided that the little people shouldn’t have anything so evil.

If enough little people wake up to reality, we could expect some common sense to prevail. Alas, this may be too much to hope for.

That would be a lot of work for something that won't handle like an FN. You are closer to the Real Thing with an FN49. The operating system. The tilt bolt. The box mag. The gas system. All are straight line design antecedents of the FN FAL.

But ...... please please please do not make any permanent mods to your 8mm FN49. They aren't making them anymore, and prices are going up. Yes, there is a 30-06 version, just like there are 7.65 versions, but the 8mm is far far more common.
