FN Five-seveN in Canada?

I think there are a couple Five-seveNs in private hands. The ammo is legit if it's not the AP kind. Regular jacketed or lead rounds are A-OK. However, I would imagine very little 5.7mm ammo is sold over the counter. Most of the guys shoting Five-seveNs and PS90s are likely re-loading.

Questar can import you one. I know when I have the spare money thats where I will go for mine. For ammo sxyglock might be able to answer that for you. Hopefully without his usual "look at my p90" type reply with a thousand pictures and movies I'll have to spend the next week examining.

The FiveseveN is not prohibited in Canada - it is restricted, of course. Getting ammunition is a huge headache! Mark at Questar may not import them, but he may import them on your behalf through his import service for a fee. You buy the pistol and have it shipped to Questars stateside FFL, then Questars stateside FFL ships it to Questar in Canada once the paperwork is approved. Once the registration and transfer is complete, its shipped to you. If paperwork isn't approved at some point, it is up to you to arrange for the re-sale or return of the pistol through Questar's stateside FFL- your risk/loss. That is the way I understand it.

I also had my "sights" set on the 5-7. MD Charleton list them in their catalouge but I don't think they sell them to the public.

I had a thought, why can't we just buy them from Belgium?

More likely to get one like mine rather than a USG

How did they get their hands on one? Have they imported from Questar or is there another importer out there?

Strangeday: Nice pics! How do you get your ammo?

Damn Questar replies fast! Anyway, here's what I got from Mark when I asked about their import service:

We do import 3rd Party Purchases, however, I'm not confident that US State Department will approve export permits for that firearm. Every attempt we've made to get export permits for the PS90, FS2000, etc. have been rejected by US State Department.

Our understanding is that they will not approve these firearms for civilian end-user export. I believe that this includes the Five-SeveN since it uses the same cartridge and State Department feels this is a military firearm.

I know there are a few of them here in Canada... but they were illegally exported from the US without export permits. We don't do that.

I can take your money and apply for the export permit, but if it's rejected (and I believe it will be) then you're out $238.50 for the permit process and you're potentially stuck with a gun on the US side that you can't do anything with.

I'd rather not get involved with that... especially when I believe the odds are high that this is exactly what will happen.

I'm sorry.

Mark

(So you guys got them illegally ;) )

Anyway, I guess I'll just pass on the Five-seveN. :(

Well who says you have to get one from the US? FN is a Belgian company. Why not try to import one from a European vendor if you really want one. Then the the US State Dept. isn't even part of the equation. :dancingbanana:

How does one import from Europe? Do European countries regulate exports like the US does? Any online vendors/brokers from Europe that you guys know about?

Somebody (Mark) better be real careful with statements like this..

"I know there are a few of them here in Canada... but they were illegally exported from the US without export permits. We don't do that.

I can take your money and apply for the export permit, but if it's rejected (and I believe it will be) then you're out $238.50 for the permit process and you're potentially stuck with a gun on the US side that you can't do anything with."

My gun was manufactured in Belgium and bought here in Canada. Any suggestion that this was illegal is inappropriate and irresponsible. The gun will run you about $1900.00 bought here in Canada nice and legal. PM me....

Actually, I take responsibility for posting Mark's email reply on the forum.

What I think he meant is that the guns that were bought from the US were (or may have) illegally been imported to Canada, but he doesn't mention from other countries (as seems to be your case).

I am 100% sure he is not talking about you or other people's case as this was a private email to me without the knowledge of the thread's discussion.
