FN Five-Seven

One of my fav handguns. I've never held or seen one in real life.. But still one of my fav. lol
Do they make 5.7x28 rounds that aren't armor piercing in Canada? or at all?

The FN Five-seveN is a great little pistol. The design of the pistol is such that it tends to be ultra reliable, as there is no real feed ramp in the design, the bullets feed almost directly into the chamber, needing minimal guidance.

The quality of build and design is very good, it is clear from the get go that somebody sat down and spent some time really thinking about how to build this gun the best possible way.

While the Kel-tec PMR 30 is a good little gun, the build quality is light years lower then the FN, owned both, only have the FN now.

5.56, 5.7x28, 45ACP for cartridge comparison.

Best to buy ammo in bulk, it only comes up for sale every now and then in cases of 1000.

GREAT looking fun Kevin...I love it!!!

With that now infamous KB of a FN Five seveN that happened last year, most of us probably have seen it...are you at all worried when you shoot it? Heard of any more happening? Any 100% evidence ever give as to why that particular gentleman's gun KB'ed?

I have one as well. Could be the most accurate production / combat handgun ever produced. Part of that is high quality controlled ammunition.
Nearly all of the KB's (if not all) are from re-loaded ammo. Re-loading is not recommended for the gun, very complicated and I've re-loaded 10's of thousands of rounds shooting IPSC for about 16 years.

Generally you have owners having KB's with re-loads and swearing on a stack of Bibles that it was factory ammo....go figure.

Love the gun.

Another question for you guys...

the 40gr stuff Questar sells...some guys are saying the 40gr stuff is ONLY for the P90 and the 27gr stuff is the only "safe" ammo for the pistol. Is this true?

Sorry I do not know the technical names...when you have so many numbers and letters in the "name" of a round, I tend to forget it lol.

40gr stuff is good to go! In fact. Any factory 5.7x28 is a go.

Not one bit worried. Think of how many Glocks and 1911's have KB'ed due to user error, and you don't feel any less safe using them, right?

I strongly believe it was user error from the facts that surfaced in that thread, barring further information surfacing.

The only two possibilities in my mind were reloads with a match grade primer that was seated high (causing an Out of battery explosion), or the extractor somehow failed to pull a live round out of the chamber, and the user attempted to rack another cartridge in, causing the tip of the bullet in the mag to detonate a round in the chamber. (Think of why tube fed guns only use soft-points, not pointed tip bullets)

Either way, this was an out of battery explosion that simply would not have been possible without severe user error in my books.

On a side note, after a ton of research, there have been at least a couple of Kabooms with the Five-seveN, but in almost all cases, the owner admitted to using reloads.
