FN Five Seven

^ the ammo's prohib? How so? I thought there were prohib calibers (32acp, for example), but I've never heard of prohib ammo. Unless it's AP - but you could just handloadload non-AP cartridges, assuming you could find brass

does it really matter? THe good armour piercing stuff is prohib... and even if you get the reg stuff...its basically jsut overpriced 22mag stuff... why bother?

The law doesn't differentiate between the armor piercing and non-armor piercing. It just specifically lists the 5.7 by name.

wait:

I read that as this cartridge being illegal WHEN IT'S:
manufactured or assembled with a projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to be capable of penetrating body armour
Therefore loading these with 35 VMAX's should be OK, no?

Would probably not work out as the law very specifically lists the 5.7 cartridge.

including KTW, THV and 5.7 x 28 mm P-90 cartridges.

I handled one at Buffalo Gun Centre (about a 1.5 hour drive from Toronto)...it felt very cheap and plasticky...no thanks.

RL

It specifically says 5.7 x 28 P-90 cartridges. It does not specifically say 5.7 x 28 Five Seven cartridges. It is one of those grey laws. I would volunteer to be the test case. I will wait until the Liberal judges are of the bench though.

If you can read it says "5.7x28mm P-90 cartridges" and since were talking about the FN Five-Seven.... I would stay that does not apply. I "could" make AP ammo for any of my rifles and pistols, so I would say so long as you reload none AP ammo for the FN57 there's no problem..... which I plan to prove in the near future..... nudge nudge wink wink.... :D This is one time I would think you could use the letter of the law.

Since when does the CFC follow the letter of the law...
  • Issuing licences and registrations for 12 (6)'s
  • Doing background checks
  • tendering and contracting rules
  • magazine rules

You wanna waste your money fighting the government go ahead...

You should never allow your fears to dictate your actions....

And by the way, the CFC is not the law, the last time I checked anyway!

As I've mentioned several times, I pressed the CFC about the classification of the 5.7x28 ammunition, basically they will not take a position on it until someone gets it approved for importation by the explosives people. Once they've got some, then the forensics people can categorise it.
