If you were shortening the barrel, and installing a front sight at the gas cylinder lock position, it should be possible to thread the barrel for one. What thread are they, 9/16-? LH? Best to check barrel diameter to make sure one would work.

Possible...
Just as simple as cutting a slot in it to fit the castle nut;

are they threaded? and if so what is the minimum I/D, and the thread details.
with those measurements i can tell you if we can do it.

Original L1A1 British Flash Hider & Bayonet Lug have the same thread as the Yugoslav SKS 59/66. They have internal threads that are 9/16" TPI right-hand twist. Hope that helps ;)

how deep is the barrel recess.... or rather, how far onto a barrel is it designed to thread

an associate called me and is going to bring one over, I'll measure it up and let you know if it can be easily done...... but 9/16 might be a wee wee bit to large ..... we'll see

Got a couple of pics with one I had laying around slipped over my short barrel.First 1.475 of the flashhider measured .590 inside diameter.Then the next .800 or so measured .520.My barrel measured .576 so it is doable.Just have to pick a thread to tap as the inside of the flashhider at .520 diameter is smooth. Also if you cut the first 1.475 off it would make it a little shorter and not effect the hider or mounting it

Yup,my mistake looked smooth with my old eyes until I took a o ring pic and felt the thread grooves.Thanks for keeping me on my toes.Just gotta find out the thread size and we would be laughing. Once you have one of these set up, time to find a cheap C1A1 bayonet.Did some googling and the L1A1 FH thread size is 9/16X24 tpi Right handI'm assuming the C1A1 would be the same as they are all inch based.The metric ones are Left hand.

that looks pretty cool Jim hehehe
so yours is just slipped on thier for the pics or did you mod it and it's threaded on? I mighta missed that ....

i'll get one in my mitts in a few days and see what my machinist can do. TIME wise it would need to be an easy mod for it to be viable so we will see. if it takes an hour, hour and half of prep , set up and machine time, then detailing and bluing/parkerizing...... a "cheap" alternative could end up being in the 65.00 to 80.00 range based on time alone. something to keep in mind before running off 20 or so. those numbers are just off the top of my head so don't quote me on that.

Hi Thomas.I just slipped it over the barrel.Dlask had already cut and threaded it (Thanks to you).No barrel was harmed for this photo shoot

If you're chopping a barrel from scratch, you can make the threads larger than the standard size. Using the FN hider is definitely doable. Everything with metal is doable, for a price. The question is whether it is WORTH doing.

Personally I think it looks gangbusters ;) I'd try it if I had a shorty.

Thread pitch and barrel diameter aside, the C1/L1 flash suppressor has various sized positioning washers to get the index correct, and a little lock washer (can't remember the exact name) that goes in the loop behind the bayonet lug and locks into a small cutout on the barrel, and a pin then goes through that. A bit complicated. On the other hand, a crush washer would probably work as well, or just drill for a pin and peen the pin.
