FN G Series

There was someone in Ontario who was the importer etc. I can't remember who it was, but he was mentioned as a source of parts in a S.O.F article I read many years ago, so we must have had a fair number back in the day. (Sorry, I know that is not a lot of use, but someone else may remember who it was).

I have never seen one for sale, on the EE or anywhere else. Indians and Aussies, lots! C1s and Brits, fewer, but you still see them, but never seen a metric in the flesh.

You are a lucky b-----d! I would love to add one to the collection!

On a related note, does anyone know if any of the Brazillian IMBEL made semis ever made it into Canada? Springfield Armouries and Century carried them, but again, never seen any in the flesh in Canada.

Fn g1

Here's mine...

Did you get an FN G or an FN G1 as above. There is a difference.

lorax

Is that a West German G1. I thought all German ones had a wooden PG and buttstock, but they could have possibly changed them at the end of the production run.

Yes it W. German. It same with a Stanag mount and Swarovski ZF86 6X42 scope (I had the scope retubed after they made the FN prohib. and sold it recently on the EE).

This is very late series Bund. issue gun (Exc. condition, never issued), one of 12brought into Canada. The story is that after FN refused to allow German manufacture the Germans ditched the FN making room for HK to develop he G3 from the CETME rifle.

I owned one as well. It came with a wodden PG and Buttstock though. Dont recall if it was new, but it was like new. Sweet shooter! Only 12 eh?! Was this only 12 of the late series or 12 of any of the G1's?

The story is correct. The Belgians were still ticked off over that "incident" that occurred during 1939-1945.:D

Thanks

12 of these "sniper" version which had the aforementioned STANAG mount and black hardware. What a piece of crap that scope mount is. While an excellent scope the Swaro moun was on the sheet metal body cover. Accuracy was brutal. With iron sights it shoots (or shot) beautiful 1.5" groups at 100M.

ah, ok, i misunderstood. iirc, mine was just a plain Jane battlerifle!!

Speckfire, G1's are converted autos. (Maybe not the sniper, though)

They were sold commercially in Canada by Browning when they were in Montreal. Sears sold them in a number of cities as well as many Browning dealers. A number were imported into the USA and are listed on the ATF site by serial number. It is NOT uncommon to find one on the list in Canada. The problem was the cut out for the safety sear as in the USA they were classified as an MG but due to the number in the country that were allowed there legally they grandfathered the serial numbers they had on a list supplied by Browning Arms. This is why you will find one on the list in the US that is now in Canada. Browning Arms moved stock from Montreal to Utah on a regular basis.
