I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find information on serial number for FN mauser sporter in 30-06. From what I have found out these were built in late 40's to early 50's. I think from my understanding they became Browning FN mauser later. It seems to use mauser 98 action, barrel is chrome vanadium steel, has all the markings such is crowns, R's, Fab Nat Darmes de Guerre Herstal - Belgique, there is the FN logo on the action and buttplate etc. Its a weights over 8lbs and the trigger has literally 1mm of travel at most at the bottom, you just touch it and its off. The serial number on the action is B27xx which matches the rest of the gun, I have read also that the date of manufacturing is below the wood, not really wanting to take this apart. Any help would be great. Thanks

Theres an excellent write up on these in Frank de Haas' book, Bolt Action Rifles. Theres a copy of it on archive dot org. If you search for it there you should find it. You can view it online or download a pdf. He has a lot of information for dating them.
