I picked up this piece this week and wanted to share. Apparently 1000 of these rifles were manufactured for the Army, and 1000 were made for the Navy (with a grey-green finish on the metal parts).

The rifle can be seen in Robert Ball's "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" (5th ed., pg 38).

***One thing that I noticed from that photo is that my rifle is missing a rear sight that fits directly above the leading edge of the trigger guard (attaches using the two screws visible in the photos). If anyone knows where I might acquire this missing piece, I would greatly appreciate a PM or email - or post the information in the thread if you prefer. TIA.

Interesting piece. Is this an FN Mauser 98 action with a modified bolt and a .22 barrel insert, or was it a purpose-built as a .22? I notice that there is no hinged floorplate and the trigger guard looks stamped. What an interesting piece. P&S has the naval version for sale but too rich for my blood. Love that crest!

I have one in my collection. I picked up a complete set of stocks in Excellent condition with all the metal. I don't think the seller knew what he had.
I only noticed it after careful examination of the photographs, and compared it to the gun in my collection.

No, only a few hundred pieces were brought in by Century Arms when they still had their Headquarters/Warehouse in Montreal before moving to the USA. At one time, I use to own serial Number 104.
