Anyone have a chance to shoot or own one of these rifles? Any dealers in Canada currently stocking this rifle? It looks like a pretty sweet rig with McMillan stock and sub 1 MOA gaurantee from the factory.

I have shot a few models in the US, they are certainly a nice rifles, well built and accurate but they are quite pricy for the McMillan stocked models. The new FBI rifle would be a fair bit of $$$ landed here, I would give TSE a call, oldbcshooter was correct, they had a few a couple of months back.

Well the SPR is certainly a great looking and tight shooting package. I've loved them so much that I've resolved to being a poor bastard and never ownning one.

So with that in mind, the did the next cheapest thing.... buy a StealthII for my wife. There, that's the closest I'll ever get to an FN SPR. LOL

Hey, if I closed my eyes, and ran my hands on the action, that's exactly what I would feel, a Model 70 or newly named FN bolt action. yuk yuk

Thanks for the input gentlemen, i'll give TSE a call, but from the sounds of it, i'm might be getting out of my financial depth! I may have to chop some of my existing collection. I'll post what I find out since there seems to be some group interest in this bad boy.

I don't know if TSE had any SPR's in stock - all I've seen on their website is the PBR (that's the one that comes with the Hogue stock on it). The PBR is a lesser rifle from most accounts. In any event, if you're serious about bringing one in, as you've already heard, be prepared to pay a pretty penny. I'm sure they've gone up in price already, but a few months ago, the SPR A1 (hinged floorplate model) could be brought in for about $2000. Questar can bring them in. FYI, yes they are accurate rifles and they do guarantee sub moa. The test target that came with mine was of a .70 (5 shot) group. Keep in mind though that the standard rifles don't come bedded in the McMillan stocks. I had to kick in an extra few hundred dollars to get it pillar bedded at Milcun once it got here. If you're looking at the A3G model, you'll probably be looking at double the cost quoted above. HTH's...

hsld.

BTW, I can't personally comment on how she shoots yet because I've been so busy with other things (work and family commitments) that I haven't even had a chance to mount the scope (Leupold/Premier Reticles Mark 4 M1 10x40 with Gen 2 reticle in Badger Max 50's) on it yet...:( :(

I spoke to FNHUSA by phone and was told that they do not ship their SPR Rifles to Canada.

Although it will not have the cache of being stamped an FN rifle, you can easily build a clone for less/similar funds and likely shoot better.

There is a post with a few win70 tactical builds. All are very nicely put together. All will meet or exceed the sub MOA performance of the FN.

Same stock. More or less same metal work. Add accessories and features to your liking. Finish however you see fit. Shouldn't be much of a problem beating the $2000 price tag and you will end up with a BR quality barrel.

Jerry is very much correct.

I had a build done on a M70 action. Bought a donor rifle new, parted it out and kept the action.

Picked up all the parts I wanted to use, then the gunsmith went to work. Its a rock solid action, and shoots like a dream.

All you need is the action, McMillan stock (I think its the A3 on the FN), then pick your parts (barrel etc). You can scoop a Gaillard, RKS or McPhee barrel for a song (all great Canadian made barrels, there are a few more Can barrel makers, just can't remember them), or look into something like a Rock Creek 5R, Bartlain, Lilja, krieger or Pac Nor.

For what you get with the FN, you could build a very nice, very accurate rifle.

Yes building an SPR is very easily possible but there would be some key differences - first you would have Winchester on the side of the action as opposed to "FN" :) Second you wouldn't have a chrome lined barrel - Not a big deal for a weekend warrior but a very nice feature if you were to be using it for real in the field. I definitely think it is work the extra coinage for a chrome lined sub moa bore. IMHO
