Fn Usa Ps90

They are legal in Canada but can't be imported due to US State dep. regulations. There are a couple floating around in Canada right now but they'll fetch a good price$$$$$$

FN should develop a small carbine with 18.5" barrels that takes FN Five-Seven magazines. Semi-automatic only ofcourse.

Reason being is we Canadian's can use 10 round magazines in that case and it would be non-restricted so can be used for varmint hunting. :)

Actually I'm surprised at the use of the P90 carbines. I wouldn't have thought they'd have went with a special magazine for their PDW. After all Pilots and mechanized armored divisions would have some sort of issued pistols (at least in limited quantities with the PDW's). So having the ability for a longer reach of a carbine/rifle and being able to in a emergency use their pistol magazines would be handy in my opinion. :)

Heck in Ontario it would be a legal big game hunting rifle.

Except that the 5.7mm ammunition has dismal performance, the whole PDW concept is going the way of the Dodo, as the threats we face now are everywhere,a full caliber carbine is the much better choice in terms of accuracy, performance and ease of training for support troops. There is no rear line now where a PDW may have been worth issuing as everyone is expected to be a rifleman now.

Reaper,

Your very spot on from what I've heard/seen on TV about Afghanistan and Iraq, but I was hoping for a non-restricted carbine with pistol magazines to take out small game hunting, and seems to me the 5.7mm would work well. :)

Dimitri,
The pistol mag wouldn't have made sense. 20 rounds for the pistol mag versus 50 for the P90mag. Have you seen the videos of these things firing? With pistol mags it would be squeeze trigger, mag change. The 50 rounder is the way to go. Neat design and out of the way as well. For civilian use the pistol mag would have been nice, but that's not what this weapon was designed for.

I really like the design of the FN P90. The ammo would be a pain though as a civilian. Also in terms of the ammo being a failure. I'm not so sure that's not just a case of it being ahead of it's time. With the traditional gel and cavity wound tests, bigger bullets leave bigger wound cavities. With the 5.7 you have a 31 grain round hitting you at 2345 fps While a 9mm hollow point at 147 grains travels at just over 900 fps maybe 1000 fps from an MP5 (not sure). This round tumbles inside of you which means all the energy from that velocity is being transmitted to the internal organs as it tumbles. The shock of this may actually shut down those internal organs and create just as effective stopping power as a larger projectile. Only with less recoil for follow up shots. The traditional gel and cavity tests don't test if the shock around the area has enough force to shut down organs. I'd like to see more modern testing that doesn't cater to the "old texas" view of bigger is better mentality. It may be that this round is a failure, but I'm not as quick to write it off.

Think of this as an MP5 replacement. Although in the last few years the AR style shorties have become fairly reliable (which wasn't the case a few years ago).

Only time I've seen the P90's fire I got to be quite honest is when they were being used on the Star Gate SG-1 TV show, always thought the high cyclic rate of fire was because of the blanks and/or for effect. :)

If you do a google search there's some video up. It fires 900 rounds a minute. Kind of neat.

What is the basis for the "dismal performace" of the 5.7 ammo?

Just curious...

Yeah, the Tau'ri killed many Goa'uld and hundreds if not thousands of their often heavily armored Jaffa using P90's over a decade or so. Hardly a failure.

I still can't believe how long that show has lasted considering how bad it sucked. The original movie rocked. But the show....... :slap:
The only thing about the show that was good, were the firearms.
