So I've been casting and loading for the 8x57. Decided to pick up a cheap Husky commercial fn 98 from Tradex that I could scope rather than mess with one of my milsurps. I've been using German and Spanish 98 military mausers. I'd like to do load and bullet development with this scoped Husky fn but it has now occurred to me that there might be some differences.....just wondering if anyone had some thoughts on that before I delve into this.

No worries with them, good solid actions. Early M98 HVA FN's will be basically identical to a K98.
The main difference with the commercial FN and a K98 is the mag box will be longer in the FN, no stripper guide (depending on year of manufacture, earlier ones still had it) and no thumb cut out. Also the K98 has a C shaped barrel torque shoulder vs the commercial FN H shaped.
Probably forgetting some things....but I have used late commercial FN98 parts to build a 9.3x62 on a DUV42 receiver, parts interchanged fine.

Ok thanks, good to know. So my COAL can probably be the same? I'll need to look into the barrel torque shoulder issue. Now, when I receive this hva I'll just have to slug it, and hopefully a few of my other 98's are comparable. I'm using the Lee 324-175, which is dropping at .325. The longer mag, sounds like a good thing! Although I've actually been able to seat this bullet right to lands already, even in the k98's. Although now that I think of it, I don't even think I've chambered it into the Spanish yet.
