I used to have an Egyptian and a Belgian FN49 and sold both long ago.

Now going through an old drawer and I found a magazine left over that can only have been for an FN49.
Not having the rifles anymore, how can I tell which calibre the magazine is for either an 8mm or a 30-06?

Hey man, I have a late serial # Belgium FN49 in 30-06 I picked up recently. I took the mag out and tried to take some detailed pictures with measurements. Hope this can help.

Thanks quite a bit.
A lot of those dimensions are similar but one or two are, two or three mm shorter so it has to be an 8mm magazine.
I sure hope I kind find somebody who can use one.

Hey, I'm looking for an FN49 magazine. I see this thread is recent.

I'm looking for a magazine to fit my Belgian 30-06 as the mag is pinned crossways and the pin is an eyesore from the side. Looking for a clean looking mag.

I'm thinking either the 8mm or 30-06 mag could work:
The Springfield case measures 2.494 inches in length, with a rim diameter of .473 inches. The8x57mm case is 2.244 inches long and stands on a .470 inches wide rim. Also, the .30-06 shows a little less body taper.

You can tell by the magazine platform, the Egyptian 8 mm magazine box will not contain or hold the magazine platform it springs free and can only be held down when inserted in the rifle. The 30.06 Belgian has a magazine platform retaining pall at the rear that engages into a small opening at the rear of the magazine that holds the platform down in a locked position not allowing the magazine platform to spring out keeping the magazine spring compressed. Similar to a magazine with lips.

Lookin at your photos it appears your magazine feed platform is in a held down/ controlled position like the 30.06, no rear photo of the mag platform pawl shown in the locking window to be exactly sure, but if you are not physically compressing the follower and it stays in the closed position and does not want to spring out natyrally it is a 30.06 mag, the Gen 2 mag.
