As a safety reminder remember if you do have a FN49 make sure you got a 2 piece firing pin:

Very nice Dimitri. It's a Three-Swivel variant with the scope cut. Your 35### s/n must be below 35800. The Three-Swivel rifles were used as the basis for the Egyptian sniper rifles. Your rifle was contracted for delivery to the Egyptians in Sept. or Oct. 1950.

The unit stock disk and screw are correct. I can't tell if there are any Arabic symbols stamped in the wrist of the stock. That was on late s/n's, but I don't know when it started.

It's a shame about the varish that's been applied. The rifle originally had a BLO finish.

PS. Got an extra 2 piece firing pin kicking around?;)

Sorry Stevo no extra firing pins. :) As a matter of fact I've got no extra parts for my FN around at all.

E-GunParts has them and will ship them to Canada though :)

As for the finish on the rifle, its ok, I'm not much of a collector, and I think it looks nice how it is. :p

Bulldog,

I'll keep that in mind. :p But since its my first rifle, and my only firearm (and will be my only one for a long time too for that matter  ) I dont see that happening.

One of the nicest Egypt versions I've seen...and I've seen a few! Great addition for sure....and a begining down the milsurp road!

Uhhh....2 peice firing pin????

Dimitri, You might not care to much but that varnish finish is SUPER easy to remove with a spray can of furniture stripper (take the gun apart first)

Wipe it down a couple times with boiled linseed oil and it will look so much better to the 'army gun snobs' around here

Uhhh....2 peice firing pin????

Yep, a recommended upgrade.

Early contract rifles (pre-'52 or '53) originally came with one piece firing pins. It was found that in service, the long one piece pins had a tendency to break with the forward section lodging in the firing pin channel with the tip protruding. That could result in a single slam-fire, full-auto til empty, or an out-of-battery ignition.

The one piece pins are most commonly found in Egyptian and Venezuelan rifles, but have been found in Columbian an Luxembourg contract rifles too.

The two piece pin will work in all models, but must also have the Firing Pin Safety Stop slot in the rear section for all rifles except the Egyptians.

I've got a 2 peice firing pin, if you ever seen someone with the name of Goose on online forums he wrote the book which you can find at www.fn49.com

He first told me about the 2 peice firing was so important. :) Well its ok my rifle came with it anyways :D
