This is to advise all CGNers that CRAFM has just received a shipment of FNH SS197SR 5.7x28 ammo - 40gr Hornady V-Max bullet.

Price for a box of 50 rounds will be $42.59 + taxes
Case of 2000 rounds will be $1575 + taxes

Quantities are limited order NOW.

Yep. Given a fifty round mag and a fun switch then yeah, I might pay a buck a round. Five shot $2K range toy? Hell no. I feel bad for those who bought these guns and anticipated reasonable ammo costs. It'll sell out only so they can partly justify the original purchase price and actually shoot the damn things sometimes!

mind you for the one or two guys that got them rebarreled to non res i sure makes one hell of a ground hog gun :D attract more then a few looks i would assume and i mea if you can afford it why the hell not

Atleast someone was able to bring it in. I tried and the distributor in the US told me they weren't interested in selling any to me as they couldn't keep up with US demand.

well we all know right now what's gonna sell really hot in FN community...
Five-seveN 22lr kit
PS90 22lr kit
Im sure every PS90 owner will get one, espeically in Canada, there comes the 50 rounders!

A conversion to .22 Magnum would make more sense. Yes the ammo is more expensive but I'm not buying a $2,000 "SMG" to shoot .22 LR! At least with a magnum conversion you could retain the hi cap mag and actually have something more useful than a plinker.

That's $47.75 after tax!

I know a guy bringing it in alot cheaper than that, $39.59 + tax ($44.74 when it's all said and done). He is GTA local.

  • CRAFM is selling it for $39.38 a box when purchased in case lot quantity so his price isn't really that much different is it?
  • I seriously doubt he'll have any trouble selling out all he got... the stuff is just not that easy to get for many owners of those firearms.
  • Even at the $42.95 price per box it isn't really a buck a round... it's $0.859 cents. while that's not cheap it's still less than I'm paying for my .308 rifle ammo that's also used on the range for target plinking (my match grade stuff is considerably higher priced).
  • It's also not that much more than what guys were spending not that long ago for 5.56NATO ammo when they could find it (I don't mean the cheap .223 stuff or surplus).
  • What's the going price right now for 50AE ammo (if you can find it)... or 500S&W Magnum? A lot more than the cost of the 5.7x28 ammo I'll bet.
  • People who buy specialty guns should have an understanding that the parts, accessories and ammo for those guns will NOT be cheap... that's just the way it is.
I still laugh when people call us up asking why their new AR purchase won't shoot 1" groups like the advertising says. Then you ask them what kind of ammo they're using and they can't even answer other than to tell you they bought the cheapest surplus/no name stuff they could find... followed by the question: "Does the type of ammo matter?"

Congrats to CRAFM for making the ammo available... I'll bet if you had put it up for auction you would have gotten a lot more for it than what you asked ;)

Well that just completely killed my desire for a PS90. Unreal.

When are people going to realize that the firearm is pretty much the cheapest part of this sport?

I don't understand why anyone considering firearms that use non-standard ammunition if they don't already, or at least plan to hand load for them.
This situation is no different than the repro STG 44s that were brought in in their original caliber (7.92 Kurtz).

Get over it and get a press already. Can't do that? Buy a 10/22 and stop #####ing already....;)

I don't think it's the people that own the 5.7x28 firearms that are complaining. Actually, at the costs advertised it's a decent price. As Mark pointed out, it's less than $1 a round which is what most of us paid when purchasing in case quantities.

Reloading can be fun, you can also realize the full potential of the round as well. Most of the factory stuff is pathetically underloaded.

I don't own anything that shoots 5.7x28, but I will "second" a genuine "Thank You" for CRAFM bringing ammo into Canada.

I bought a Glock G37 back in the when they first appeared on the scene (I wasn't reloading either) and couldn't find retail ammo for nearly 1 year!

I can assure you I'd have paid any price for even a few boxes with the amount of frusteration I felt in owning a gun that ammo didn't exist for (in Canada).

~Cheers~

P.S. Due to the high cost of ammo, I've just about completed a >$1500 AR-15 project (5.56 chamber) that is going to be using .22lr ammunition 95% of the time :)
