The title says it all, I am looking to buy a new .45, has anyone shot either or both of these pistols? Both are around the same price and come with 3 magazines. Unfortunately I don't have access to either pistol. If anyone can provide some information about the accuracy, trigger pull and perceived recoil comparatively that would be great!

The PX4 SD in .45 operated the same as the PX4 9mm which I have shot.
The SA/DA trigger is pretty standard...first shot is a long firm pull and subsequent shots are little and light pull. I found the rotating barrel gave me less felt-recoil than in other identical caliber polymer pistols. The sights were good, I felt like my accuracy was good, and the pistol did not have any misfires, FTF, or malfunctions.

Handled both. Fit and finish is better on the PX4. PX4 handles betters and feels more egromonic. Have not shot either but if it was me I'd go with the PX4.

From my thread on G21SF vs FNP45

Since my open div gun is a bit of a hassle right now I have been considering jumping into the production div with one of my 45.
Since I was comparing both I tought I could share some with the guys looking into either of these pistols.

DISCLAIMER, shared info on this thread is for entertainement purpose only. The information I give is based on my personal observations (unless noted otherwise) and should be taken as such. YMMV

G21SF
What has not been said about the Glock? The G21 along the G20 are the largest framed of the Glocks and probably the heaviest (set aside the long slides). The SF models are issued with ambidextrous mag releases and this is about as ambidextrous as it gets. I am lefty, but still prefer activating the mag release with trigger finger. For some grip is boxy but now, with the FNP 45 in the other hand, I realize it is not all that boxy! It comes issued with plastic sights, 2 mags and a mag holder in classic glock carry case. Got it from Wolverine

FNP45
The new kido on the block, fully ambidextrous controls. As mentioned the grip is boxier than the glock with the standard back strap. The other backstrap provides a bit better feeling but it makes the trigger too far for me. It cost me 75$ more than the G21SF to get this bad boy which is probably explained by the better sights, better mags and the ambidextrous controls. For this one (remember I’m lefty) I prefer using the thumb to release the mag and activate the decocker and trigger finger to release the slide. This is the basic models which only has a decocker, a manual thumb safety on the decocking lever is available on other models. Other options also including extended threaded barrel, slide machined to accept red dots such as RMR, fastfire, STS. Comes with 3 mags (mine came with 1 factory 10 and 2 pinned 14) and 2 backstraps in this bigger than necessary case. Got it from ArmsEast

Comparison
Here is a little chart showing relevant (to me) specs and comparisons. Upon hosting I wasn't satisfied with the size but meh, I think it is still readable

A Rounded up average grip length calculated in between finger groves. (X1=2,09’’, X2=2,15’’, X3=2,25’’)
B According to Glock
C According to FN USA
D Will not fit CRSpeed's G model either

Bottom: G21 barrel with plastic guide rod

In the end I would say you cannot really go wrong with either gun, the FNP45 was made to be in the same league as the G21SF and XD45 and I think it delivers. For me, I am still debating which one I will use for production, in either case I need a new holster and more mags. Would I rather have a heavy trigger pull first shot and a sweet sweet trigger for the rest of the stage or just a good tirgger all around? Would I pick the FNP45 because of the ease of access to the mag release? I have not trained enough with either pistol to decide, so if I had to pick today I would go with the FNP45 strickly cause I have a 10mm conversion barrel coming for the Glock

I developped 2 load today for the FNP45, one for plated and one for cast
this is 5 different charges of powder under a 200gn LSWC at 10m (50 rounds)

FNP-45 Tactical handguns are chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge and are compatible with all ammunition loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including +P and hollow-point loads. .45 ACP ammunition manufactured in accordance with NATO, U.S., SAAMI, or CIP standards is within the design limits and known to function in the handgun.

Hi, Well i'm in the same boat as you, I considered the PX4 Storm, but for the price i feel it should come with better sights and i heard the trigger on the FNP .45 is one of the worst in the .45 lineup, so i'm ordering a Sig 220 Dark Elite as my first .45. Can't wait.

I think you've been mislead.

+1.

PX4 Passed all SOCOM trials. All other pistols entered in the trials did not pass. It's quality all the way.

I have handled both and shot the px4. ergonomics and feel the px4 is a really nice handling gun for a double stack it doesn't even feel that big. the fnp is also really nice I liked the controls better on it but the feel of it wasn't as nice in my opinion. now when we get to shooting the px4 I have shot the 9mm and the 45 and the 9mm is decent I don't care to much for the trigger compared to a sig but I really like sig. then the 45 I felt was a disappointment it had poor recoil management and a sloppy trigger and overall I really didn't care for it maybe it was just issues with that perticular gun but either way I would never buy one. This is also just my opinion but I would look at a sig before either of these I think and a 1911 before that. soon I will be shooting a fnp 45 tactical so until then I can't comment on it

I too want a px4 SD and would like some more input from anyone else. Is it worth the $$$$ or get the new 92a1 ?

I just ordered the 96A1, 92A1 is 9mm and PX4 SD is only available in 45 as far as I know. There are so many options in terms of .45 ACP its hard to choose. I used to really like Sigs until I shot one. Compared to the Glock, the trigger reset seemed really long and it seemed to have a lot more muzzle flip to me. I also didn't like the position of the slide release, I thought it was kind of wedged in between the grip and the slide making it hard to lock back. Have you tried the Sig short reset trigger?
