hey all..
as a result of some reloading ive done  a few of the cartridges got a little banged up at the neck, while trying to add the bullet..
i dumped the powder...but now to discard the cartridge, can i pop out the new primer?
i think i read a posting a while ago about soaking these in oil to deactivate them  is this true or is there some other way of doing it?
thanks for any help with this matter :D
cheers all
Don

Just pull the de-priming pin out of your sizing die and run the case up into the die just far enough to straighten up the neck, (Be sure to lube the case first) Refill the case with powder and seat another bullet,

If you do want to remove the primer slowly de-prime as you would normally. Soaking the primmer in a plastic bag with some WD-40 "may" deactivate it.

........ or you can take the primed empty cartridge out with you the next time you go shooting and fire it off while point the rifle in a safe direction.

Don't fire them at home. You live in an apartment if I remember right, and a primer sounds like a 22 going off. You may have the cops at your door.
Either take them to a remote location and fire them, dissassemble your depriming die, and resize them, or you may decide to just deprime them live.
It's possible they may go off doing this, (never happened to me yet) but you should be protected by your dies and press. (Wear saftey glasses, gloves, ear protection, and a coat) and stand clear of the channel in the press that your primers drop from.

I'm with Boo, fix the cases and reload them. You are chamfering and deburring the necks before you seat, right?
And some kind of neck expanding die (used very gently) will prevent it from happening ever again.
