H may be dreaming, but he does have an addiction to hi-velocity cartridges. He has since upgraded to a .257 Weatherby backed up by a BAR .300 WSM for hunting in the thick stuff.

.257 Bob is a fine cartridge... among many fine cartridges... it is a different flavour of icecream... some like vanilla some like chocolate, but they both make you smack your lips.

I can get that level of performance out of my .243's, but I don't always want to shoot my .243's... or .260's or 7mm's or... or...

Your buddy is dreaming... The 257R will do everything a 25-06 will do, and burn less powder doing it...

Esp here in NB where shots are almost always taken under 100yds.

Sounds to me two-dogs, that you got the best of that deal, anytime you can trade a $600 rifle for a $1500 rifle (and a Ruger for a Rem at that) I say jump on it and never look back.............

Now as a side note I do have a Stevens 200 screaming for a rebarrel, it is a short action so I'm curious would the .257 Roberts or other x57 based cartridges work in it? Or should I go for .250 savage if I want a quarter bore?
