Folding bipod on a rimfire forward or rearward?

I always face my centre fire rifles with Harris type bipods facing forward due to leaning into the bipod and recoil, but rimfires have no recoil and I kind of like the more compact way the legs line up to the forearm, and my hand still fits in there.

What have you guys found? Might go back to an Atlas style bipod as well. :)

Thanks

Savage .17

When down they point forward.
Pointing forward, one can be dug in by pushing forward in order to level your rifle . . . try doing that when facing rearward and it will collapse; Coming to full rest with sufficient noise to rival the proverbial click when it should have gone bang or the bang when it should have gone "CLICK"!

I had a bipod that had 3 locking positions and I kept those legs pointing towards me because I could actually deploy them while changing positions and keep my rifle shouldered. For the Harris style, do as the others have said. What but pad are you using on your Savage?

Thanks, it is an adjustable pad I had in my parts drawer, have no idea, sorry. There are Morgan buttpads as well.

Always forward. Nothing to do with recoil, just the forward pressure steadies the rifle more for precision shots.

Does make the balance a bit funny when you shoot off-hand, but it's a trade-off I can accept.

if you want the peace of mind, with preload, and want them folded backwards, or forwards. an atlas is an amazing option. even the clones are decent. not quite atlas quality but damn good for the price. I have both

I have a clone Atlas as well it is great. The real one is better but for a .22 or .223 the clone works fine for me. If I was using on a big bore I would pony up on the real thing.
