So I have a mossberg 590 (pistol grip model) and I would like to put a folding stock on it. I was wondering what everyone is using and likes or dislikes. I'm about 1/2 ready to try and make my own but I don't have a lot of time right now

Folding stocks are something to be carried lots and shot little, because of their dog leg design , they seem to amplify recoil
Unless you're dead set on a folder, have a look at a MESA stock adapter, with a crosshair recoil reducing buffer tube , that , with any AR stock you fancy, I went with a magpul CTR, myself, because limbsaver make a very nice recoil pad for the ctr stock.
If you're still wanting a folding capability, look at a Matador sidewinder folding stock adapter, I haven't used one , but have heard good things about them.

Choate, but they are all steel, lock up tight and Choate has the best customer service hands down. They sent me a replacement pad from the US for FREE. And me the 2nd or 3rd owner.

This was my field gun for years.

How did you find the handling of the 590 with the MESA tactical adaptor I have another folder and despise the grip for being to big, clunky and working the bolt release a pain in the ass.

If you're getting a pistol grip of any type on the Mossberg, Shoten Armory makes extended releases of different sizes.

I had an ATI top folder but got rid of it because I wasn't the only possible user of the shotgun for predator defense and the fixed stock was easier for use and more forgiving. That said, I would suggest what ever you buy, get used to using it and don't be shy to add some material to get a better cheek weld that won't punish you. I found this easier to do on the side folding Choate stock I had years ago than the top folding ATI due to clearance issues in the folded/collapsed position. Top folders also block your line of sight when folded, if you wanted to use it as such.

I have a Fab Defense on my 590A1. They're pretty nice and have just about every bell and whistle possible - folding, adjustable LOP, recoil reducing shock absorber, storage compartment, shell holder, picatinny rail, adjustable cheek rest. But for the price of one you could just buy a second shotgun and it would probably be money better spent.
