Im looking to get a folding stock for my maverick 88

does anybody have an opinion on the over top folding stock, does it break easier, is it comfortable to shoot?

I got a side folding stock from butler creek, but im looking to get the overtop model from advanced tech

thanks

To be perfectly honest the top folding ATI stock is rather cheap as it is all made of plastic including the hinge. We have seen a few break and don't recomend them for high use guns. A better choice for a top folder would be the steel one made by Choate. Somewhat more expensive but much stronger.

Normally, I do not like folding stocks on a shotgun, but I occassionally need one for space constraints and I have a top folding ATI on my 870 right now.

P&D is right about the construction. It's all plastic and the butt plate is rather thin. However, mine has stood up to moderate use fine, and I prefer it to the choate because it conforms to the reciever better and is less bulky over the top. Some things to be aware of: You will need a file and some sandpaper to smooth it out. The edges on the stock rails are sharp and will cut the first knuckle of your thumb the first time you fire with it if you don't.

yeah, i got one from butler creek the other day from P&D

i dont know, i hope it lasts a while, if it breaks ill just get a solid pistol grip

Ill probably return the butler creek model

i think ill get etheir the knoxx copstock or Knoxx SpecOps Stock

or just a normal pistol grip

Side folder: you can use a sidesaddle
Top Folder : you cant use one

I have an ATI top folder on a beater 1200 which actually survived the ATV varmint no love gun use pretty well. But I do prefer my Remington top folding unit. The choate is just brutally ugly. :D

i've never shot a shotgun with one of those bc folders, but have held one
question is, do they smack your cheek pretty good or no?

no not at all, mind you it does take some getting use to the receiver moving. on the knoxx copstock system it only moves about two inches when firing heavy slugs (magnum rounds like federal powershock or winchester super-x). moves less with shot and light loads
