Young boy followed by bear in Italy.

That would raise the hair on the back of your neck.

Over the years we have had bears follow us sometimes all day. It is very unnerving. Although there is always an armed person with the group it is still not a pleasant feeling. You don't know if it is just curious or whether it is hunting and you are on the menu or not.

I dont usually take those type of posts seriously.... till its from pounder. Why just one armed person?

Funny...or sad...how the Dad kept 10m in front of the kid. Think I would be walking right beside my boy!
What people don't do for a photo op.
Geez.

Bears don't usually follow you for the fun of it!

Was in Banff last week. To make a long story short, talked to a construction supervisor who had just chased a bear off one of his workers, coming out of the bathroom. It was down to 2M. Social distancing just a little too close. Reason I talked to him is heard honking and thought I might get a picture. Those are the most dangerous ones, habituated to humans.

Grizz

Once they learn that humans are a food source, you might as well take care of them because sooner or later it's going to come to that.

At least that's how it works at remote bush camps.

GreenBob We have a 1 guide to 10 people ratio. We don't want to scare our clients with too many guns around. We want our clients to enjoy the trip and not worry about the dangers that may be or are around. We cannot just shoot any bear that shows up. There is a very stringent set of rules around shooting a polar bear. And that is the second last thing that the clients need to see.

How does bear spray work on those ? I'm assuming these bears are close to people a lot of time and might get overly friendly. Would seem to me people need to be made well aware of possible dangers, just so they don't do something stupid.

Grizz

We had a black bear follow one of the guys back to camp in the spring hunt 2 years ago. He was out on stand in the evening using a predator call. He didn't see anything and came home at dark. About 2 minutes later one of the guys went out the door and there was a big bear. It took about 5 minutes of a lot of noise, pots and pans banging and yelling to get it to leave. We looked the next morning and it's prints were in the mud over his on his way back.
Very unusual. I've never seen anything like it before.

We don't use or allow bear spray on any of our trips. The wind is way to variable to take a chance with it. It also seems that once the bear is committed to the attack spray will not turn it. Polar bears really don't bluff. We do our best to educate people about bears but dumb is dumb. People doing stupid things gets bears killed.

Not having veiwed the original post, but if you are referring to being followed by a white bear in the North pounder you have every right to be concerned.

yeah i bet that kid needed a new pair of shorts. The dad was telling him to shh aren't you supposed to get big and loud? the kid had a bag of food in his hand didn't he?

too bad that bear is going to be culled now, it was a nice looking huge griz, and if you watch closely in full screen the kid was dropping food for it
