My Dad left this catalogue with a cousin years ago, and it showed up back in my mailbox about 10 years back, he thought I'd want to have it back. Remember these? About 5" x 8"?

Leafing through it, I recall how, as a kid, I used to dream about owning one of the rifles in these pages.

A few of the more memorable examples, just for old times sake...and remember, all these prices included delivery!

Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight - 12, 16, or 20 ga - $114.95. With Ventilated Rib - $154.95. (Wish I had one of these in a 20 ga, one helluva upland bird gun that would have been! I have a 12 ga though.)

Winchester Model 1200 with Recoil Reduction System - 12 ga - $166.95.

Cooey Model Model 840 High Grade Single Shot 3" Mag 12 ga 36" barrel - $33.95.

Browning Safari Mauser Bolt Action, Standard length, with sights - $227.50 - Medallion Grade - $352.20.

Husqvarna Model 4000 Lightweight Monte Carlo - 6 lb 8 oz - $195.00.

Marlin 336C 30.30 or .35 Rem - $115.00.

Winchester Cooey Model 710 - Long and short action calibers - $103.50. (Anyone ever own or see one of these???)

Remington Model 700 BDL Custom Deluxe - $192.50 - 7MM and .264 Win Mag - $211.25.

Browning F.N. Semi-Auto - .308 - 20 round clip - $262.50.

Colt AR-15 Sport - .223 Rem - 21" barrel - $254.50.

Parker Hale Model 1200-C - Safari Super - $148.50.

Shultz and Larsen Model 68DL - $256.50. (This is the one I'd love to go back and snap up a couple!)

And lastly, who didn't cut their teeth on one of these...

Cooey Model 39 Single Shot .22 LR - $18.95. (Got one of these for Xmas when I was about 10, still have it! Dad put a William peep on it, and I could put 10 rounds into a dime size group at 20 yds with it!)

:)

I saved a few...like in 1977 one could buy a H & K 93 or 91 for $389.95 and 40rd mag for $22.95 and use them.SIR catalogs 002.jpg

SIR took a pretty big chunk out of my disposable income for many successive years, bought my first reloading set up from them along with my first Mosin. Brings back a lot of memories, I have a few of the older catalogs stashed away here somewhere that have been well looked over many times.

I remember some of the guns they sold back then that would give the non-believers a heart attack today.
Like the 100 shot Calico in 22LR, and 50 shot in 9mm.
Ahhh, the good ol' days.
And nobody try to burst our bubble by telling us the costs in relation to todays dollar, 'cause back then, anybody could afford a Cooey 39, even on a paper route budget.

Heres the prices adjusted for inflation.

Bought my first gun and first hunting knife there. Still have the knife: Chuck Buck signed it for me one of those green-handled anniversary ones. Later bought one of their special anniversary SIR Buck hunting knives.

Heres the prices adjusted for inflation..... Well that added some perspective to it, like .55 cent cigarettes to $16.00 a pack. My brother buying a base 1969 F-150 for under 2K and myself in 1971 picking up a 69' Mach1 Cobra Jet for $3100.

I love these old catalogue threads. Amazing with the prices adjusted for inflation. My Grandma had an old Eatons 1904 catalogue reprint that fascinated me. It had pages and pages of guns too. The only thing that would make this better is some scans to .pdf. A lot of work though, I know.

I have 3 bankers boxes full of the little pocket novel sized SIR catalogues.
Some of them new and unopened.

Noticed the converted ak-47s with the banana mags that almost touched the floor that are now prohibited.

The country is so much safer now.

When you look at those numbers, they're not really out of line with what's being asked for the same or similar firearms today. Sure, there's a few examples that sell cheaper than the adjusted-for-inflation price, but most fall reasonably close to today's asking price.

It still makes me want to cry about the ones we used to be able to have but can't because "they look scary and have an evil pistol grip". God DAMN all Liberals, especially Pierre Trudeau, Jean Chretien, Allan Rock, Paul Martin, and Justin Trudeau!!!
