So i was a little late this year to start my hunting would have been my first season and first year with my pal. Now looking back what i thought would be a decent hunting rifle seems a little silly looking back on it the gun being a mosin in an archangel stock thing weighs as much as i do. Now was i prepare myself to go for sure next year gear wise it is dawning on me everyday that this gun may not fit the bill i was looking at getting something in 7mm and keep the mosin as a pinkler. Weight and reliablity is the main factor for me this will be stricktly hunting rifle. I know its between a sako tikka a rem or a weatherby in my mind this being my first hunting rifle what do you look for what do u run im not buying anytime soon but wanna have a great idea in my head when it come time to purchase and other peoples experience or frustrations with the rifle's you have owned.

You have mentioned some really nice rifles in the realm of hunting guns. The key factor is what is your budget?
The Rem 700 is a known quantity. Older ones are better, newer ones had some QC issues, stock trigger needs work. SAKO...what can you say about the brand that was chosen by our own Rangers? Super accurate, high quality gun but very pricey. Tikka, the just as awesome but cheaper relative of the Sako. Weatherby, can range from cheap to really expensive depending on model and caliber so you need to know your price range.
My rig is a Tikka T3 Hunter 7mm mag with a Zeiss 3-9 Conquest scope. Light, accurate, superb stock trigger, slickest bolt ever. The gun oozes quality. Will never sell! But...only my opinion! YMMV.

I'd give the Tikka a good look if I were you. They fall into your budget range. They are generally accurate and reliable. Some people don't like the detachable box magazines but I've never had an issue with them. Cheers Bac4

I have 2 Tikkas for hunting rifles, and a Browning BLR for the bush. my target guns are Remingtons. in my opinion you cant beat the value of the Tikka. I've owned several over the years and haven't had a bad one come thru the door.

In a similar range to the Tikka is the Browning X-Bolt. Not as smooth a action as the Tikka but a great shooter nontheless.
My hunting buddy carries the X-Bolt in 7mm mag and I have the Tikka. We shoot each others' guns regularly and are just as accurate with either.

Tikka is a great gun for the money. I havent read a bad review about them or the vanguards for that matter. I shouldered both and found the tikka a bit better and noticeably lighter. Picked one up on the EE last Jan and dont see myself ever selling it. Its just that good a gun.
