For those of you who shoot production. What holster do you use? I had a Blade-tech but since I have changed guns I was thinking of getting a CR SPEED WSM II. If you do use a speed holster & you shoot in the U.S. do you change holsters to shoot over there or do you use one that is legal in both countries?

I was going to get the CR SPEED WSM II but then Rob E. made me aware of the U.S. rule.

I need to have equipment detail worked out by Monday when every one comes back from SHOT SHOW.

Thanks to all who have helped me out with answers. I have asked alot of questions in the past week or so and I appreciate all the help.

Especially those who have PM'D & E-mailed me, you know who you are.

if this is for the CZ shadow, than the DOH Bladetech is a great holster. I prefer my Ghost,...although Speedsec also comes to mind (other than CR)
Another holster I would like to handle is the new DAA race holster.

I am using both BladeTech (without drop-off piece) and CR-Speed holsters. Both are great. One little advantage of CR is that it sort of giving you a guiding rail that you can slide you hand to the grip, such trick doesn't work with BladeTech, because it sits higher

Ghost might be faster but it feels less secure to me. A little mistake and you can be dequed from the match before even firing a shot (just happens at nationals last year with someone). Omen is right. At the stages that matter the most, speed holster won't give much advantage.

There is virtually no statistically significant scoring advantage for anyone, beyond the top, Top, TOP shooters to use a speed holster over something like a BladeTEch DOH (which is what I use).

The difference that does exist is (and I timed myself) maybe 0.1-0.15s on a draw, BUT you have to balance that against a greater chance of fumbling the draw and losing time correcting the grip, against the greater danger of dropping the gun, or having it knocked out (hey, I saw the national Prod champion get DQed like that in Barrie! - Nick). Plus, the time advantage is only a factor in stages where you shoot without moving first - i.e. you draw and shoot. In most stages, you draw, then have to get into position, then shoot - so you draw before you can shoot - i.e. the 0.15s saved is meaningless, since it'll take you longer than that to get ready.

So, my advice to you - save yourself the money and the danger/headache, and go with a BladeTech DOH. Leave "speed holsters" to those who are either really so good they can take advantage of them, or those who just want to look like they know what they are doing (why is it the people with the fanciest guns/rigs shoot the worst :) ? Man, I loved winning shooting a $300 Norinco copy of a Sig :) ) This way, whenever you run into a stage where you have to run a while before the first target, while carrying something, you'll be able to do with without any worries. Just watch all those speed holster guys carefully walk up and down the stage, trying to see if they'l be able to run that distance without their gun falling out (hey, remember the dragon breath stage at the East Elgin provincials :) :) ).

I personnaly use the Bladetech DOH holster with my CZ Shadow and I love it. It doesn't slow down your draw at all. Actually, mine got faster when I switched from the CR to the Bladetech. May be because I started practicing more but I trust my Bladetech much more than I trusted my CR. I shoot matches in the US so I can not use a race holster anyway. But even if I was gonna shoot standard with a 2011, I would still use a Bladetech. A lot of top limited/limited 10 shooters in the US use the Bladetech as well because it can also be used for 3 gun matches and you don't want to be switching from one holster to an other all the time.

Just my opinion,
JP.

I was on the range at the 09 nationals when that DQ occured. I often wondered if the holster had a light spring under the retention ball. I did not ask him at the time, as he was not likely in the mood for questions. Some people cut the springs under the ball to "gain" an advantage. I actually put the stronger spring in it so it would not fall out if I got bumped or moved in a manner to jolt the gun up.

With the trend towards mostly field courses at matches the draw has become pretty insignificant, I suspect an Uncle Mikes thumbsnap holster wouldn't have much of an effect...

Omen where were you a year ago. :D:DYou would have saved me beacoup dinaris as I already had the Blade Tech holster as I went with teh CR set up. Well as crappy as I am at IPSC at least I look like I know what I am doing. Well at least until the buzzer goes off.;)

Naturally, the best thing for you to do now is buy an Open gun to fit that CR. That way you can go back to the Bladetech with your Production guns without having to feel guilty.

With my recent gun purchases if I were to put together an Open gun I would be walking around with a sever limp no doubt caused by the extraction of the optical sight from my rectum. I have it on good authority from "she who knows best" the sight woud be placed their along with the gun.:D

WAY too honest,....don't you know,...ALL your guns cost $250 each. Mags are $10, holsters are $25, and ammo is free.;)

If you shoot Production in US, you can't use race holster:)

BladeTech DOH is good for Both Canada & US. I am shooting Production. I am using CZ Shadow.

Cheers

Ohhh, these topics comes up as regularly as Liberal calls to "ban guns", I think this was the 4th time I wrote that exact same msgs in probably 3 years.. :)

I like my Blade Tech DOH because once the gun is in the holster, it stays in the holster unlike some race holsters which seem to drop guns fairly often at matches. I don't know if it is the holster design or operator error, but I like the simplicity of the DOH.

Yeah, yeah, but you're not human :)

That's like Dave Sevigny using a Glock - it's hardly an ideal gun for production, but it doesn't matter with him :)
