For something a bit different

Picked up a gun I'd ordered a year ago, this weekend. A Kreighoff Classic SxS in 30R Blaser. A decent SXS is something I have wanted for a long time. Got to the point where it was now or never, just do it.
I did a lot of research on it, ended up with the Kreighoff because of stock styling, 100yd factory regulation, and it is ready to shoot on closing, and can be decocked to carry, recocked to shoot in an instant. I looked at Sabatti, regulation issues are/were a problem, Merkel doesn't offer up the options to see, they no doubt exist, but, what I saw didn't really turn my crank. Took a hard look at Chapuis and Verney-Carron. Vendor talked me out of the Chapuis. VC talked themselves out of a sale on the price of a scope mount. Heym and Searcy were beyond the budget.
I had the notion of a 300H&H to start with, nobody wants to build one in that chambering, that I could afford.
Got to researching what was offered, the 30R is available from all the makers over across the pond. I looked into it and it turned my crank, 30-06AI type performance, in a rimmed cartridge. Researched the load data for it, tough search, but, I came up with it. Found some sources for brass & ammo. It was specifically developed for break actions by Blaser and RWS. You could also call it a 7.62x68R. I've seen where people have pushed it to 300H&H velocities in Blaser K95's. The factory ammo says 860m/s on the box, 2820fps, with a 180gr.
I started with a basic Classic, added a Recknagel swingoff scope mount w/30mm and 1 " rings, a 3-leaf express sight, a sling and an aluminum case. And then I asked to have the Big Five buttstock put on it,which resulted in an upgrade on the wood.
Turned out the express sight was not compatable with the scope mount, The one thing I didn't have an e-mail on, and I forgot to pursue alternatives the next week, forgot about that point altogether til I saw a pic of the gun in Dec on it's arrival at the vendor. Little disappointed on that, then I remembered being told about it.
Fortunately (?), they had forgot to send the rings, and had regulated it with the wrong weight bullets, so, back it went. I got to burning some sawdust on the sight issue, asked to have a Recknagel ghost ring peep installed. They had to custom build a front sight for it, got pics in early Feb for approval, cool, good to go.

Got "the call" it was in at the vendor mid-March, told him to bring it with him to the Calgary Easter gun show, it was only two wks away, and he was coming anyway. So that made a full year, and a week.

Like opening Christmas presents as a kid, wood looked better than the pics, single leaf sight was still on it, front had changed to a red Truglo, peep was in the case with the front sight for it, and some wrenches and oil and the rings and the swingoff base. I think it actually ended up with better versatility than I'd originally thought of on the sighting system.

That is lovely. I lusted after that gun for years, but eventually went with a Merkel when I found one used at a great price. Mine is in .30-06...not exactly a classic double rifle chambering, but it is what it is. Aside from the Merkel's adjustable regulation, I find your rifle preferable in just about every other way. The de-cocking safety feature takes some getting used to but is a great feature, and the rear peep sight is genius! Guns like this make it difficult to get excited about another bolt action.

If you think you're pleased now, wait until you get a load worked up and start using that beauty for a local deer hunt or something similar...cool beyond belief. Congratulations!
