I fell in love with the 280 a few years back when I had one in a weatherby ultralight. Recently I had the itch to build one on a sako 75 and I just finished it. I am very pleased with it so far, and in a few days (letting the bedding really cure) I hope to see what it will consistently do. I am optimistic given the first and only 100yrd group I shot (From my picnic table, in the factory Tupperware stock) - but yes I know one group means almost nothing, but like I said - I'm optimistic.:)

Thanks guys. Now my 7mm rem mag feels left out - so it's becoming a 300wm. :)

The loads I tried were left overs from my weatherby -140gr accubonds I believe. I will most likely stick with these or 140 gr partitions because I have a bunch of them.

The stock is a mcmillan edge fill in their grey. I order almost every one in that colour. My only complaint (besides the price) of mcmillan is sako 75 specific - everyone of them I have ordered needed the top inletting deepened about 0.050" to be "proper"

-stainless sako 75 IV with stainless sako ringmounts, and a leupold vx3 3.5-10x40 with b&c reticle and leupold flip ups.
-stainless Douglas XX grade barrel I slightly reprofiled and fluted 23"
-mcmillan edge filled sako 75 pattern stock 14" lop

What are you referencing for proper depth/fit? I have a Sako 75 in a McMillan hunter and it seems to be sitting deep enough to me? Just curious and thanks for any input!! Beautiful rifle and great caliber too!!
 
I feel the barrel should ride half its depth in the channel, the rounded magazine bottom should not be countersunk in the bottom metal, and the actions rear tang shouldnt stand proud of the stock. All of mine have had those issues - they are all cosmetic issues, but bug me.
 
Yup, that 75 is a great looking rifle.... LOVE the .280 Rem, and the fluted barrel is very beautiful, gives it a modern, no nonsense look.... I love Sakos ,but all of mine are the 85 action, except one 6.5x55 that I use for Standard Rifle in Silhouette shooting..... I feel awesome when I am on the firing line with my 75 ready to shoot Rams at 500 metres.....
