This is what happens when you make gun parts out of zinc. There are pictures of a Sig Mosquito with the exact same type of malfunction floating around. I can't believe that reputable gunmakers like Sig and Walther would put their names on these pot metal pieces of sh*t.

This is what happens when the marketing gurus & bean counters have more clout than the design engineers.

It's all about profits.:(
 
I wouldn't jump to conclusions saying these guns are cheap. I suspect that this pistol has been dropped in the past and the slide got a hairline fracture when it hit the floor. After time it finally gave way.
 
Golly to think I have been using an old, old High Standard 'Victor' that the checkering on the grips is woren also had te replace the fireing-pin on it a few yrs ago. Obviously younger is the a High Standard 'Trophy' I know to be purchased new around '60 & BOTH with a lot of ammo through them. I can tell it is younger by the wood checkering & the stippling gives one more grip.

Also pleased I have picked up a 6 yr old Ruger MkII 5.5" heavy bbl that was used quite heavly the first 4 yrs & still flawless.

Baffles me as to why S&W, a name I have always felt to be one of the best (yes I have a S&W M617X 6"), only when it comes to .22 rim fire they seem to go on the CHEAP side & it always backfires on the buyer. True the mentioned gun is probably not "cheap" as it is claimed to be WALTHER & to be so much like a proper semi-auto in center-fire.

They ARE el cheapo!!! That is the reason why I just refuse to by ANY firearm that is not 100% good old, solid steel. I don't care what they say; how nice, "test proven", etc., their firearms are. When buying handgun, get small magnet and check frame, slide, even barrel. It might be pot metal or aluminium with lining. Who cares if the handgun is so light that bit larger balloon will lift it in the air. I don't give a damn about marketing stunts like this one. As a matter of fact, this and similar "masterstrokes" of marketing are alarm that extra caution is in order. If in doubt, get Ruger, used S&W 41, or older Browning Challenger with steel frame. Just say no to junk.
