Forbes 24B

Has anyone handled one yet? Are they in Canada, and if so what is the pricing?

Over on the 'fire there was recent mention of a few sightings of .270s on some dealers shelves around mid-july,sounds like they're starting to trickle in.
I also read a range report where they put multiple 24B's through their paces, reviews were favorable.
Looks to be a good semi custom type rifle with demand exceeding supply, let's hope they build them right, and stainless comes in 2013 like the website claims.

God knows if Canadian dealers even have any coming, I'm sure curious about pricing myself.

The retail price for the full stainless version is listed at $1499 (including Talley mounts). Seems like a pretty darn good deal. The only thing that causes me a bit of concern is that it uses an E.R. Shaw barrel which is, and correct me if I am wrong, a fairly low end barrel.

From their website:
We are currently in production on 30-06, 25-06, and .270 win. We will be adding .280 Rem and 35 Whelen by the end of the year.

Short action, Model 20B rifles are planned to be available for order starting mid 2013.

I thought it was using bulldog barrels (edit: now I see ER Shaw on the website) ? (which im not familiar with). Either way at 5.25 pounds its fairly interesting, cheaper and lighter than a Cooper in the Semi custom dept. Not many chambering options but that may come along later.

Maybe someone like Clay at Prophet river can bring them in.

That is what I thought too. Wasn't E.R. Shaw the company that made cheap, ready to go US$90 barrels for Savage actions a few years ago?

I think they were originally going to use bulldog barrels, but have switched to shaw. I think they will be alright, as Mel wouldn't want to tarnish his rep.

They are listing prefits on their website for 170$...would be nice to have that deal available to us here. (even if its a low end replacement barrel)

Perhaps you are right, but I really wonder why the change. In the big scheme of things a Shilen, Lilja, Pac-Nor probably would have added maybe $100-200 to the price. Maybe it has something to do with production capacity.

On the other hand it might not matter...the proof will be in the pudding!

The really cheap ones used to be on Midway USA. I agree that it is nice to have the option.

Was that not Adams and Bennett? They do lots of short chambered Mauser 96/98 barrels too.

I think Shaw retooled about 10ish years ago, and apparently produce a decent quality barrel. I have heard them compared to douglas and shilen, John Barsness speaks well of them, fwiw.

I have already started down the path to one in 270 Winchester. :)

Will let you know if the trail gets hot, and the price, or if it peters out.

Have used a few Shaw barrels over the years, and they were all satisfactory....just less expensive.
