It could well be a good way to ruin your rifle if it did work.
The copper jacket would then be open both front and back like a tube. It would then be very possible to have a core blow out of the bullet during firing and leave the jacket stuck somewhere in the barrel. The next shot fired would impact the obstruction and raise pressures dramatically with the possibility the rifle - and shooter - may be damaged.
